The first for me was Alf Craig having a ‘goal’ disallowed against Tranmere Rovers in the late 60’s on a snowy night – the referee reckoned it went in after his final whiste.
The penalty winner by Jim Fleming against Peterboro is the next highlight that springs to mind, closely followed by losing 1 – 0 to City at Maine Road.
Birmingham, Everton away and then Leeds in the quarter final bring back further memories.
Not much else until this season to be honest which is why for me, at least, the F A Cup of 2013 will be something to look back on with pride as the years roll by – whatever the result.
I used to like going the non league grounds when we was in the third/fourth division like Altrincham and Runcorn but our cup run in 85 I think when we got knocked out by Leeds stands out
Had some blinding fa cup memories, 99.99% as the underdog. The dream growing up as a latics supporter was to draw a big team in the next round. The 86-7 run, Coventry away, Southampton in 85, and some cracking do’s at non league grounds, Leek Town Runcorn, Barrow to name but a few.
Sure, I’ve dreamt about it but not seriously. Still makes me chuckle when I say it out loud. We’re in the fa cup final :woohoo:
Coventry away last minute Darren Patterson header, followed by a cracking pitch invasion. Proper day out that was  :woohoo:
replay was a good un too, Donny Page header against the bar from a yard out sticks in the mind.
Apologies for all these smileys my 3yo lad wants to seem them all in action
B) :( :) :cheer: ;) :P       :silly:     :woohoo: :side: :S  :pinch: goodpost
my first memories are hereford 1952 and then newcastle 1953, don’t remember much to be honest, but it set me on my way, i was hooked. many, many years later , i’m still hooked. thanks latics for a fantastic journey, a journey which will never be equalled by anybody. we should be all be priveledged to have been part of it. :cheer:
I’ll make this a sticky as the club want to do something along these lines this week.
If you want to send your memories directly to them, email to n.taylor@wiganathletic.com

My earliest one is 2 matches in the same tie, Port Vale, it was the first time I ever witnessed fighting at a football match, I was about 11 at the time and it was quite a shock seeing police dogs seperating fighting fans, remember this was 1969.
The match finished in a 1-1 draw, the replay at vale park also finished a draw 2-2, which I didn’t go to, leading to a second replay.
The second replay was at Old Trafford, and the excitment in wigan was like the stuff for the final now, it was my first time on a big ground, first time I remember going away ‘proper’ with the latics on a proper coach, slightly different from trips to skem, burscough or chorley the limit of our trips until then.
My dad worked night shift at the time so I went with a school mate and his dad,I still see this ex school mate at games every now and again, but haven’t spoken to him for nearly 40 years. I remember running home from school to get changed and running up to the gas showrooms to get on one of the long line of smiths coaches, when we got near to old trafford all you could see was the floodlights lighting up the night sky, we parked up and walked, what seemed to an excited 11 year old, miles to the ground.
We were stood in a paddock in front of the main stand, towards the then open air and packed score board end of the ground, I was in total awe, we had never seen such a sight, never seen floodlit games, what seemed perfect green pitch, to be honest I cannot remember anything about the game other than we lost in extra time, it was all about the build up and the occassion.
Thank you for that, I wish I had included those games against Port Vale in my post. Like you say, it was our first real venture in to the ‘big time’ – how things have changed.
A chant of ‘Come On Wigan’ sprang up during the game and continued for most of it. This was the 12th man in that match and inspired the draw leading to the replay.
Perhaps we can ALL do that on Tuesday and Saturday.
Losing to Notts County on pens at Springfield Park and 1-0 to Canvey Island. Plenty of other bad memories that will all be washed out when I see the lads walk out on Saturday.
