1 The whole experience of playing City in 1971. At the age of 11 that was special.
At the age of 53 this week’s match will be the best though.
Never ever believed we’d get to the Final. Wish my dad could be there. He’d have loved it.
i remember going up to hartlepool in the early 90’s lost 2-0, it was freezing!
enjoyed altrincham away, think we lost?..
coventry and leeds are the stand out one’s, funnily enough when we were lower league we never got a good draw..one of the big clubs, and since weve been premier league we could never get a little club…until this season.
saturday is gonna be fantastic..gonna get in my seat a good half an hour before kick off, and drink it all in, the whole occasion..abide with me, the national anthems, MY CLUB walking out at wembley in the f.a.cup final, I WILL CRY, i just know i will.

Same sentiment (in my case 48, grandfather – ex-chairman WAFC (late 50s, 60s) and subsequently vice chairman Lancashire FA – used to take me to the cup final as a kid every year)
little did i think i’d be watching wigan there one day :pinch:
Saturday will be some day
Sure he’ll be looking on in with immense pride (and no doubt telling the lads they need to do a lot better ….. some folk never happy  )
Blackpool away and Northwich away for me.As stated by a previous poster Blackpool was a great rip snorting cup tie, , fabulous atmosphere great game and replay to boot . Northwich if my memory not totally goosed was abandoned with freezing fog engulfing the ground when we were 3 up , came back for re-arranged game and managed a draw.(please correct me if I’m wrong and I’ll make an appointment with the brain consultant. !!
Losing to Notts County on pens at Springfield Park and 1-0 to Canvey Island. Plenty of other bad memories that will all be washed out when I see the lads walk out on Saturday.
Notts Country feature in my (bad) FA Cup memories, published on 3rd round weekend this season.

No need for a shrink you are pretty much spot on in how you remember it.

We won the replay 1-0 if my memory serves me well (scorer: derek brownbill)
I can relate to most of the memories already submitted, but my story is not about a particular match itself but the getting there. Back to 1969 when I was still at school, the number of Latics fans could be counted on the fingers of one hand. Yes, it was pre Maurice Lindsay and animosity towards the towns football club was rife (take note SDW). One morning in assembly, the Headmaster announced that any boy (it was a boys’ school) wishing to attend that afternoons rugby match between Wigan and Warrington could go as long as they did not go home. Obviously, most went to the game (including myself, oh the shame!). At this time Central Park did not have floodlights although the Latics did (perhaps they should have asked to use Springfield Park?) However, the following year Latics played Burscough in the 2nd qualifying round of the FA Cup. Having drawn the first tie 1-1 a replay was necessary and, as Burscough didn’t have floodlights, it was scheduled for a weekday afternoon and in my case a school day. So, myself and two school mates wanted to go, but what are the chances of them (the teachers) allowing this. So with a bit of unusual courage I asked the form teacher who suggested I saw the headmaster to explain our plight.
“I don’t think it is appropriate to allow you to go to a football game in school time young man” (no, his name was Smith not Clough)
“But Sir, we were allowed to go to the rugby match last year” says I.
“I suppose so, but just the three of you” was his resigned answer, although I’ll bet he was thinking (you cheeky little b)
So off we went to Wallgate, train to Burscough and on to the ground to see most of the game. We were behind the goal to see Jim Fleming score in a 3-2 victory. The draw put us up against Gordon Lee’s Port Vale, the then leaders of the fourth division and three epic cup ties culminating in a 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford in the second replay. Gordon Lee went on to manage Everton a few years later. We were in the Northern Premier League at the time.
The rest as they say is history, but then we don’t have any do we?
well lots of memories lincoln(biffo free kick), jewell doin norwich, chris thompson v hull, grimbsy in mini buzz losen , alty lozzin , spennymoor just winnin well i love my latics and not many can say there where there in the big bill and gage days.
Quite a few wiganers stayed at the premier inn at harrow on sat night, we were out numbered by the city fans staying there,we got back from wembley around 11.00 all the city fans in the bar stood up and gave us around of applause and congratulated us on our win, which was a nice touch goodpost
