Another of those memorable days in the Latics history. Peterborough United comes to mind. Geoff Davis and Jim Fleming (ice cold) super heroes. What a day and over 17,000 in Springfield with loads of space for more.
Anyone else have a favourite second round tie. Last season at home to Fylde was pretty good. An1 December 2018 at 4:00 am #173550I remember it clearly but I was only 8 and didn’t realise it was the last minute when we got the pen so didn’t feel nervous. I just remember there being loads of people there.
1 December 2018 at 12:35 pm #173556Only one I ever really remember is the loss to Notts County on pens at Springy. We had a plum 3rd round tie as well I think.
Edit – Sheff Utd away we would have had.
1 December 2018 at 12:50 pm #173558Would have to be the famous tie v Northwich or should I say the 3 games against them.
1 December 2018 at 1:12 pm #173559Can’t remember that one Nuneaton, my mind is a bit foggy these days
1 December 2018 at 1:53 pm #173561Can’t remember that one Nuneaton, my mind is a bit foggy these days3 nil up at their place abandoned due to fog, 2nd attempt 2 nil up then they scored twice in last few minutes to force a replay we finally won it 1 nil at Springy. Famously dumped Chelsea out at the Bridge in the next round

1 December 2018 at 2:20 pm #173565We were knocked out in round 2 by Bury one year and missed out on a money spinning trip to Old Trafford.
1 December 2018 at 4:30 pm #173568No my mind is still a bit foggy…….1981 dnr, lost 3-0 at Goodison in round 4. Pretty sure the second game v Northwich was played on Xmas eve.

I remember the game at their place. I was too small to see, but my dads mate told him there was a policeman who had a dart in the side of his face.
I also remember the replay. If memory serves me correct, derek brownbill got the winner.

1 December 2018 at 10:04 pm #173578I still remember the ticket we had for Goodison with Northwich or Chelsea or Everton v Wigan Athletic written on it. The massive pile of sticks outside the ground coz they confiscated them from all our flags and almost being decapitated when the advertising board fell off the top tier of the Park End.
1 December 2018 at 10:09 pm #173579The away end looked packed, I was in the three tier stand at the side
