Can I just remind you of this situation last season at Christmas? We won 2-0 at Barnsley.
But it’s not our position I am highlighting – it was Barnsley’s.

I quote “Barnsley will spend Christmas in the relegation zone after slipping to a 2-0 defeat at home to Wigan Athletic.”

They ended up the season in the play-off places, and got promoted.

There’s still a long way to go.

You’d think we’ve already been relegated by looking at Twitter and Facebook.

White flags going up all over the place!

To be fair The Championship is a lot more competitive and the sacking of Lee Johnson also had the desired effect for the Barnsley last season! As for us, I have said several times that Joyce will need several transfer windows but with the current status quo even the most positive fan would find it hard to muster up a modicum of hope! Time will tell!

The defeat at Rotherham has left me feeling pretty flat. Had us 1 or 2 points from safety by winning that but now we’re two games from safety and the sides around us are picking up wins whereas we aren’t.

        I’m probably now 51/49 that we’ll survive.

It is not doom mongering at all just realism. How can you use Barnsley as an example?.They were easily the best team in the division by the end of the season and unlike ourselves have taken what made them successful last season into this and are doing a great job. We are going down and no amount of optimism and false hope is going to change the way we are being run at the present. Too many changes on the field were made when it was off the field changes that were needed. We can all beat our chests chanting “we are staying up” but it isn’t gonna change results or our appalling bad luck. Joyce is gonna need a miracle and the poor guy is being hampered by the ridiculous actions of his predecessor who has gone before him. By all means wish him luck coz boy is he gonna need it.

PS, SURELY OUR LUCK MUST CHANGE SOON

Well said DJ Nunny. We can live in hope of a miracle.
Burnley where scratching around the bottom of the Championship at Christmas the year Coyle was their hero and took them up to the Greed League via the play-offs.
I think why Latics fans are so despondent now is because of the overall feeling of deja-vous.
Many fans who will be bleating won’t know anything more than the success years either and still expect us to be challenging for a return to the Greed League. Not meaning the fans on this board.
Sorry to say to them that may never occur again and some day we possibly will be a regular league 1 or 2 club again.
Hope they will still be showing an interest when the main aim of the season could be a cup run to the third round or an auto windscreens win.
Trust all the Twitter and Facebook brigade will be just as vociferous on Saturday.

All’s I can say you can’t knock the lads for effort, if we’d gamble abit more in the last third and turned a few of those 0-0’s into 3 points we’d be hovering around the play-offs.

We need to concentrate getting the ball into Grigg Just like Deli Ali did at MK Dons. We spend so much time pishin around with the ball in the last 3rd it’s frightening

….and what league was that in mon?

When will the penny drop that the difference from league One to the Championship is massive in terms of quality of teams and players.

Have you forgot all the goals that was created for Will Grigg last season, he didn’t need Deli Ali, the likes of Yannick, Jacobs, Power etc gave him plenty of ammo and he notched at a decent rate after a slow start.
Its not a case of pishin around, its more about being closed down by well drilled teams who dont give you an inch of space. :(

We only need to finish fourth from bottom to survive. We played quite well first half on saturday, huddersfield looked poor for a top six side the difference was they took their chance when it came. IFwe can sort the last third out and with the same commitment as saturday we’ll be reet, still four months left, keep the faith, up the ‘tics

Our problem now isn’t defending as it was previously, we’re starting to look a more solid unit. Our problem the last few games has been 1 individual mistake or some shocking bad luck. We’ve held our own this season against Brighton, Hudds, Derby etc. We aren’t far away,

all of our eggs have gone in one basket called Wildschut. We were comfortable on Monday but the reason we were no attacking threat was Wildschutt for whatever reason didn’t perform.
We need options up there, preferably quick ones.

And as JR just named the problem in three. Jacobs Power and Wildshut. None of them have shown much at all. Power and Jacobs have been shite at best but keep their places whatever. Yanic too as been well below par. A couple of decent runs every now and then but his passing as been atrociously bad. With those three behind Grigg performing as they have there isn’t much hope for him at an higher level. The idea of a lone striker is for the midfield to back him up and these three are failing him miserably.

We will turn this round, maybe not to the point of the playoffs but certainly safety

Barnsley and to a lesser extent Burton are making a mockery of your post marrer. Burton had nowhere near the budget or squad we had last season or this but are making a better fist of it than us jr. Our problems are again self inflicted and not the step up in class. We should be good enough to cope in this division easily and I do find it amazing that every excuse is being banded about as to why we are so poor when the blindingly obvious is being avoided.

                      #153782

I personally do not think we are poor. The thing is, we are nearly there – just lacking something at the moment, which happens to be in the final third. Unless i’m mistaken, we have not been battered this season by any team & the defeats we have had, have frustratingly been by a single goal.

I’ve been saying the same myself Runcorn but I’m getting sick of thinking after every match the same thing. Another crap team have gone away with all 3 points…… So I’m beginning to think we are..

Confidence is the issue now more than anything else. We just need to nick a win and who knows?
