He also – on another thread – only watched the 2nd half of the West Brom game, through no fault of his own, I might add. But his assumption is that we were the same in first as the second.

So, he’s a glass (first and second) half empty man

Not sure it would really help; there’s an awful lot of head-banging into solid surfaces on this board, albeit metaphorical, but it doesn’t seem to make any difference

Think its called for the first time. Some good interviews with Baines, Roberts, Bullard etc. Its a good pick me up after watching 90 mins of the dross being served up at the moment

I reckon your going to have to change your user name to “lostthefaith”.

seriously – did you watch any of the games during most of the 2nd season with jewell, the time under hutchings, or the 2nd half of the bruce’s 2nd season?

Of course not. He, like many others, chooses to remember that we were obviously just a nad’s nob from qualifying for the Champions League under all of those previous regimes.

The only difference between now and those regimes is that at some point they had a half-decent run of results before slipping badly away. OK, Bobby hasn’t managed to put a good run together but I’d put a lot of that down to the fact that the Premier League has finally caught up with Wigan Athletic.[/quote]

And the fact that we’ve sold all our better players, and replaced them on a shoestring budget (in the main) has also caught up with us. That said, the 11 million or so wasted on Boselli and Aghahowa, is ridiculous for a club of our size. We would’ve been better biting the bullet and spending a mad 10 million on a really decent player, than taking the chances on those two. If he’d done well, we could’ve then sold him for around 15 million and replaced again, for 10 million or so.

No their probably wasnt the same the year later, however it was clear they were still together against Sheff Utd could you see us going to Stoke the last game needing a win and getting it?

No, I can’t. This team crumbles under pressure, and there’ll be no ‘Al Pacino’ video, this time.

We’ll already be down, and bottom of the elague by then, anyway.

Where did I mention Martinez? Come on, man! You’re reading it how you WANT to read it. LOL! (only kidding with you)
My comment was collectively, including every sale we’ve made, and player lost. It started with Jimmy Bullard, and Jason Roberts going. And also Chimbonda. From that first season, right away we lost 3 key players. We were definitely weaker in that second season, and it showed. Jewell jumped ship because he could see what was happening. Since then, we’ve lost players like Palacios, Valencia, Baines….and we’ve never really reinvested much of the money. And that’s why we are where we are now.

Blame Martinez? No, you can’t. Apart from the players he has brought in. He’s bought a couple of good young players in, for sure, but some who…well, the jurys out.

But thats the point Vat we will never keep players who eventually will want to move on

We can only go so far as regards of wages without bankrupting the club imo In a previous post you stated that instead of the money splashed out on Bosselli and Aghahowa ,go for a 10 Million pound player ‘

In my opinion that player would have cost another 5 million wages because that type of player wont be on £20 grand a week

Dave, all well and good, but the ten millions wasn’t spent all at once. There were two years between the two players. It’s all down to cash flow, and I doubt the club have ever had ten millions available to spend at any one time.

Secondly, if you buy a player for ten millions, you pay the salary befitting a player bought for ten millions.
