Jody Craddock5 June 2012 at 12:34 am #88728Some big names on that list but the problem is that if these players are worth having why are the clubs concerned letting them go?
Far better to scout out players with hunger than ageing greedy b@stards looking for a big wage and a place on the treatment table.
Lets face it if your over 29 and on a free your probably finished as a footballer at the top level and this list proves that.
We should sign Owen and pay him £3k a week pay as you play. Will work out a very cheap signing :dry:5 June 2012 at 4:54 am #88731Some big names on that list but the problem is that if these players are worth having why are the clubs concerned letting them go?

;)
5 June 2012 at 2:52 pm #88737I notice that Mike Politt is on the list. Do we have a keeper in mind as back up to Al Habsi ?
5 June 2012 at 3:06 pm #88741I notice that Mike Politt is on the list. Do we have a keeper in mind as back up to Al Habsi ?If the papers are to be believed Craig Gordon, he’s just been released by Sunderland and we are interested.
5 June 2012 at 3:13 pm #88742I think that RM has developed a penchant for Lorne Sausage and Mothers Pride Scottish Plain Loaf and he needs as many suppliers as possible !
5 June 2012 at 4:20 pm #88746‘Bosselli on his way back…no need for Owen (A N Other) to join us’
If we do aspire to TOP TEN, we need to look beyond Bosselli/Sammon for me. Can ill afford to wait till Jan 2013 transfer window, to see whether our prodigal son will deliver. Seen nothing to date to suggest he will.
This season’s home form…first 15 games – won 1(QPR), top goalscorer Di Santo (2/3), Rodallega firing blanks, Sammon game but … etc.
Hopefully, Di Santo can build next season on H2 2011/12. Sun newspaper today has us interested in striker, Theo Robinson (Derby, £1.5M, 23 yr).
Fulham apparently interest also. Never heard of him.The Fulham no. 9 – Pavel P (not retained), who put one past us at the Cottage, hit bar and post also. Now he would be useful (beyond Latics reach ?). Made very good impression at Fulham after Zamora departure
S Fletcher (Wolves), pricey, another ….
5 June 2012 at 5:29 pm #88754…we need to look beyond Bosselli…Seen nothing to date to suggest he will.He hasn’t played for us for a season and a half, and before that it was sparingly.
Give the lad a chance.

Maloney
McCarthy
McCarthur
CaldwellI see a pattern…..

…..it will make for an interesting ‘fancy dress theme’ if we pull a home game on Boxing Day.

Maybe we need a pipe band to accompany our East Stands drummer?

Just because they are leaving their clubs doesn’t necessarily mean they are suddenly crap players, HT and SG apart. :woohoo:
From Matlock to ManU

And the fact that our £6m buy hasn’t played for us in the last 18 months is because ?? (failure to deliver…). Looked out of sorts, no pick up in form even once he got off he mark in a Cup Tie (his one and only goal, if I’m not mistaken) Has he not moved from Genoa, Italy back to Argentina during this period ?
I wouldn’t be pinning my hopes on him delivering next season, certainly not if a FAST START to the campaign is the objective. Squad Member maybe (salary considerations ?).
The Fulham guy (Pavel P – apparently, Reading after him – today’s press), S Fletcher (Wolves) – both having delivered in the Premiership – or equivalent (Owen, Fuller, ..) please.
Concerned if go into the new season with Di Santo, Bosselli and Sammon only …. you wouldn’t be ??

Boselli went out on loan at HIS request; it was f’all to do with the club loaning him out on a lack of form, and Martinez has openly stated that….in fact, I was present in the room when he said as much.
Yes, those players you’ve mentioned have scored in the Premier League but there’s no guarantee that:
a. We could afford their salaries (I don’t know what Boselli is paid, but I’d wager it’s less that Rodallega)
b. They would consider signing for Wigan – given that other, more attractive teams are likely to be interested. And in answer to your Yoda-esque question, concerned I would not be. We were good in the latter-end of the season, with Di Santo finding a bit of form (and before you say it, no, his goal return wasn’t good, but the goal return with Di Santo in the team was). Rodallega was a bit-part South American, so what do we lose if Boselli replaces him, especially in a system more suited to his particular merits?

DW is alleged to have stated funds will be made available to strengthen squad – if we’re talking BOSMANs, why should n’t we be in a position to afford the likes of PP, JA Riise (both Fulham) i.e. sign-on fee /salary
According to Wolves fan I was talking to yesterday, no player on more than £15k / week (Fletcher). Agreed other teams may be interested, but if you don’t ask, you don’t get. Lets stop talking Latics down – TOP 2 finish to season (last 10 games), much to build on going into this … (agreed on need to remain realistic).
Agreed that Di Santo picked up during H2 of campaign and would expect his goals / game ratio to pick up this year.
The fact that we were so good during that memorable 10 game spell was very much due to the high% availability of like of Caldwell, McC n MacA, Maloney, Di Santo and Moses. Bad run of injuries with any number of those out simultaneously and the results sequence would undoubtedly have been somewhat different.
Both Bosselli and Sammon have yet to ‘earn their stripes’ in the PL.
Incidentally, talking of slotting into formations and reinforcements (strength in depth) why not …
LWB – Beausejour / JA Riise (ex-Fulham)
FWD – Di Santo / Pavel P (ex-Fulham)Riise / PP, a ready-made back-up combination. Fulham didn’t do too bad did they ? Wiganesque-like form (!), post January transfer window
