I’ll stick with my jealousy theory.

4 February 2011 at 8:51 pm #58227griff are you a closet red?Nope, no closet involved. I’ve always liked Man U.
I have little time though for the kind of mindless person that slags of people they know nothing about personally. I can only assume those people are jealous of the things their target has achieved and earned throughout their career.
Gary Neville may well be a complete tw@t. I wouldn’t know, as I don’t know him. Best full-back of the Premier League era? Not sure he’s even the best that Man U have ever had. I think Denis Irwin was better
4 February 2011 at 9:56 pm #58236Remember him playing against us at Springfield, in the Lancashire Cup game. I’d heard a lot about this up and coming young player, Gary Neville.
Did nothing except play the easy ball. I thought “Nowt special”. But obviously he has been. Class, solid, full back. Great for England in Euro ’96, as well.
Always been a question about his manner and attitude, but he went well up in my estimation when he was on that Rio Ferdinand ‘candid camera’ show. The ‘copper’ offered him a chance to get out of getting done, by signing an autograph….and he refused, saying “I’d rather you take me the station”. Fair play.
I know Liverpool fans HATE him with a passion, for his open loathing of their club, and love of United. But if they’d had someone like him at right back for the past 15 years, I bet they’d have won more titles.
4 February 2011 at 11:55 pm #58254As for what he was like away from the game I have no idea (although I did once literally bump into him in St Anne’s Square in Manchester & he had a face on him like a bulldog licking pish off a thistle) but he’d hardly be the first person to tell a workman they were paying them to work not talk – even more so when you consider how quickly owt he’d have said would have been splashed round the internet as soon as the workie got homI don’t know Gary or Phil, but I’ve had a few dealing with Nev, their dad, over the years. He’s a decent bloke but can sometimes slip into ‘do you know who I am?’ mode.

Pity it’s not Phil Collins though. It would be brilliant if you could set it to sing a different song off ‘No Jacket Required’ every week.
