i read his book a few years back but at the end felt quite angry and sad about how this very gifted man lead his life although he wascsurrounded by stupid hangers on.
Putting cat sh/t in his mates pies and driving somebody unwittingly at high speed at the top of a van are hardly stories which set an example to young footballers starting out are they?
that said I do feel sorry for him and feel privileged that I saw him play towards the end of his career when he was still a class act even then.They were talking about this on Talksport the other morning and i’m sure Ronnie however you spell his second name said, him, Chris Evans & Pierce Morgan? had chipped in to send him to this drying out clinic in USA.
I don’t wish Gaza any harm at all, but he’s more fortunate than most alcoholics are with all the help en support he gets.

Precisely my point ! He has had shit loads of money and has spunked it all away, He has been in the Priory and other top class rehab establishments, now you cant do that on £50 a week especially when you have tabs and white lightening to buy ! :S
Just a couple of points:
1) George Best did not die because he pished his new liver up the wall. He died due to complications caused by the immunosuppressive drugs he needed to take following his liver transplant & which ultimately caused multiple organ failure. It’s a high risk factor for all transplant patientsWhat a load of rubbish, Bests death was due to multiple organ failure but it was caused and brought on because he continued to drink after his transplant, I suggest you read a book called Babysitting George by Celia Walden if you continue to claim it was not drinking that killed him.
Walden, who is now married to Piers Morgan, was a young journalist employed by the mail on sunday who also employed Best, they assigned her to spend some time with George Best to stop him selling his life story to other newspapers sniffing round him, she ended up spending 12 months with him and charts his continued drinking and admittance to various detox clinics.
Doctor Akeel Alisa, Bests consultant, certified the death of the retired footballer and sports journalist was pneumonia, septicaemia, gastrointestinal bleeding and multi-organ failure.
A secondary cause was immuno-suppression following liver transplant, also showed on his death certificate.What shows up on a death certificate is not necessarily what actually killed him, and if you think/claim it was not alcohol, you are misguided.
It’s not about trying to sound clever, but a lot of people think George Best died because his transplanted liver packed in coz he started to drink again & that isn’t true. I also acknowledged that if he hadn’t been an alcohlic then he wouldn’t have needed a transplant in the first place
And an alcoholic having the will to stop drinking is only the first step in attempting to get off it & isn’t the sole answer/cureLook at my last post, I suggest you read Ceilia Walden’s book before digging a bigger hole for yourself.
