More than just a thought, but a common held opinion.
Watson at centre back?
I could have understood Jones back there and Watson in midfield. Not that it would have been particularly good – but I could understand it.
I’m curious George why you could understand Jones playing centre back but not Watson. They are both centre midfield players but Jones is probably more attack minded. I thought it made sense having Watson at the back as he had next to no defending to do and his main task was to take the ball off Ali and start the moves going – which I thought he did alright.

No idea really – just a gut feeling. No rational explanation why I felt that way. Maybe just that Jones is a bigger “harder” player who looks like a defender. Watson is a (don’t laugh) creative midfielder type (I said, don’t laugh). I certainly don’t see Watson as a centre back.
But just my opinion. I coul dbe wrong. Usually am.

My youngest loves you.
Not for the display tonight.
Not for the result tonight.
Not for the tactics tonight.
Not for getting beat by a lower league team.
Simply for treating the fans and supporters of Wigan Athletic with contempt.
Three and a bit seasons of garbage and this year a chance of something to smile about and Bob puts out a team like that tonight.
With luck we may stay in this shoite league for another year but what a great chance thrown away by Clown Bob.
There are only 38 games in the Greed League. Is it too much these days to play the best team and give the fans sonething to cheer about for a change.
Anyone remember our club playing in The Northern Premier League? That meant so much for us fans to see us win it. Just as much as playing in the Greed League yet the team competed in the Lancs Junior Cup, Lancs Senior Cup,Premier League Cup, Ashworth Trophy,FA Trophy, FA Cup, North West Floodlight League and Floodlight League Cup plus more pre and post season friendlies and benefit matches.
On most occasions it was allways the strongest possible team.
You do what you feel is your best Bob but we need smiles again now lad.
I can understand your frustration, and the berating you get from the usual crew for expressing this does not surprise me..
You look at the two previous matches in this cup and Bob put out five first teamers with a further two on the subs bench. He had two first teamers out last night with three on the bench, why, when we had a great chance of going through to the next round. That team selection was poor, very poor! and it showed as they couldn’t break down a league two side, they were bereft of ideas. i think we had one shot on goal in that first half?
I for one love a good cup run, Cardiff in 2006 was a great day out and will live long in the memory. I aint so sure Bob is going to give us any good memories! Hope i’m wrong…

I think I summed Latics up well today when I said that with us it’s always a case of “One step forward, two steps back”.
For example, in 1986 we went 2-0 up at home to Swindon in the Play Off’s….only to lose 3-2. In 1999. Won the Autowindscreens at Wembley….. then lost a short time later in Play Offs to City. In 2000, we went 2-1 up with hardly any time left in Play Off Final V Gillingham…..yet we lost 3-2, conceding 2 late, late goals. In 2001 we went 1-0 up in Play Off Semi Final, Second Leg at Reading…….yet again conceded late goals and lost 2-1…..
In my 26 years of supporting the club, it’s pretty much always been the same.
It’s never easy being a Latics fan. That said, we’ve had a hell of a lot more success than a lot of other clubs. I.E. Preston, Bury, Rochdale, Wrexham, etc. Teams we used to face on a regular basis.
the thing with the league cup is you either go for it, play your best team in every game and try and win the thing or play a mix of first teamers and fringe players and hope for the best. for the first two games it worked but last night it didn’t. its the same with all the prem teams, yes i know prem survival is priority, but i cant help feeling we’ve missed a great opportunity and its the same every season in both cups. i come off last night as pissed off as everyone else, but judging by the team selection mr martinez wasnt taking it too seriously, a big deal was made about how many they were bringing and trying to get our lot to turn out and then he puts a team out like that, thats what pissed me off the most and the thing is we will be having this same debate again in january after the third round of the f.a cup

thing is win last night, a favourable draw tonight and we really would have been cooking on gas, that’s what frustrated me most.
think most would accept a 3rd round FA Cup exit if we had had a decent Capital cup run; PL our ‘bread and butter’.
Incidentally, Talk Sport pundit was last night giving Sunderland bloody hell for having lost to Middlesbro’ and passed up the opportunity for
some success (non-performing team .). Being ‘little Wigan’ can sometimes work to our advantage (weren’t mentioned … !)
