When you see a game like that Wire v Wigan game you realise what real sport is like.
No primadonnas diving and looking for free kicks and penalties, no crowding the referee and swearing at him.
No cry babies when they get a hard tackle.(that’s a laugh)

Simply the greatest spectator sport in the world.

If it is the greatest spectator sport in the world, can you explain why no-one is interested in the game throughout the world save for those with a WA or WN postcode, parts of Yorkshire and a small corner of France, Australia and New Zealand?

I am intrigued as to how you can make a statement that something is the greatest spectator sport in the world when 99.9% of the world completely ignores it

Just another rugby liar I guess

I wouldn’t give those kangaroo the steam of my whale, nevermind giving them money to sit next to a load of hagged old fat women and chubby soap dodgers shouting “wigin wigin” – I will never forget supporting the latics in the 80’s and listening to the rugby shat that used to come out of their fat mouths!
and you try telling that to some of the chubby folk, especially a guy near me who has a fatties sticker and a Man U sticker in his car…..makes my blood boil but maybe thats the way it is.
….and anyway, I like to watch a match until its end so wouldn’t enjoy their “wigin walk”
        …rant over.

The problem with a rant is that you tend to come out with contradictary and downright daft statements.
So this neighbour of yours supports United rather than his home town team and you’re going to take your son to see St Helens or Warrington rather than your home town team?
As for the ‘Wigan Walk’, didn’t you see/go to the game yesterday?
It certinly seems to be a town thing as the Latics have adopted it on numerous occasions this season.

…I don’t like the worriers…..very simple. My neighbour might not like the Latics…his choice. That’s just the way it is :)

…anyway, I didn’t go to Warrington, he lost interest as I thought he would…we watched the only Wigan that I have ever known and love. Pitty about the result though! :(

He should have said best value spectator sport in the world if he’d meant to say that then. He appears to have done a runner because ( unlike the rugby board ) telling lies gets challenged on here.

It might be the consensus view in the antiquated enclave of RLfans.com amidst the constant lies and deathwishes about Latics that RL is the greatest game, but outside this particularly parochial and insular group of hand wringers, the rest of the world barely acknowledges the sport

If it is proven to be such value for money/greatest spectator sport then surely EVERYONE in the country and the world would be playing and watching it. The residents of South Wales didnt think so, nor Paris, kent Invicta, Mansfield Marksmen, Gateshead and nearly every other failed venture the RL has tried to take the game outside of Lancs & Yorkshire pit village.

If someone can explain why this isn’t the case then I might be inclined to agree with the statement.

Come on Rogues Gallery, back up your statement and tell all us Latics fans what we’ve been missing

              Don’t mistake quality for quantity.

I watched the Wire v Wigan game and then the Wigan v Spurs game. If you are telling me that the Latics v Spurs game was better than the Wire v Wigan game then you are seriously deluded.

Oh right so because some bell end of a rugby fan from Wigan says RL is the world’s greatest spectator sport and links to some journalist on a rugby league page who watches the game, that’s two people – when are you going to get around to ensuring that the other 6.8 billion people in the world automatically agree with your statement? You did speak on behalf of the world after all didn’t you? I am sure if you ask Americans many will say baseball or American football, Ask Japanese they will say sumo, ask Europeans, South Americans or Africans they will say football. Ask Australians and you’ll have as many saying cricket, aussie rules, RU as RL given that it is by no means that countries prominent code.

But oh no, your sample of two people can apparently speak for the WHOLE WORLD of 6.8 billion people, of which around 6.79 billion have never even heard of rugby league. Come back with something better please.

Try leaving your house once in a while, there is a big wide world out there beyond the pit villages of Lancs & Yorks which you inhabit, and the insular world of RLfans.com where self serving idiots convince themselves that they are right to turn their back on the local team who is playing the national and global game in favour of some 21st century version of shin kicking ( and then hypocritically go and pledge allegiance to a big football club from a city they have no connection to ) Hardly anyone in the world gives a toss so if this perceived quality that you speak of is so great, why does the world ignore it?

You and your hate filled chums on RL fans might think RL is great in Wigan ( or wherever the other 40% live ;) ) just like they think cheese rolling is ace in Gloucester or bullfighting is great in Spain. Your opinion has been dismissed by me and dismissed by the rest of the world, toddle off back to the site where you all tell each other lies until you believe each other. After all this is a football site and before you say it,YOU were the one who came on here mouthing off about RL and slagging off your local football club. Stick to your own back yard, or at least attempt to come back with some facts to back up what you’ve said, you can’t lie your way out of it on here. Please remember that you have chosen to speak for the whole world here and not just the sad Latics haters from the small minded world you inhabit.

                Best wishes

Firstly, where does Rogues say he is speaking on behalf of the World? He simply states his opinion that rugby league is the better value for money sport. Having watched both for a number of years I agree. Very few 0-0 draws in rugby league or indeed very few draws (when they occur they are usually quite exciting). I can list at least six Latics games this season at which I have been bored to tears and several more that have been on TV which I have turned off due to boredom. I very rarely do this with a game of RL but that doesn’t mean boring games don’t happen they just happen less often. The stats in this article (which are not made up and I’m sure are readily available prove a point regards how long the ball is in play http://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/s … for_money/ ) In the recent Wire/Wigan game after 20 minutes the ball had been in play for 17 and a half of them.

This of course is simply my opinion. You are entitled to yours.

Yes football is the more popular sport in the World you can’t deny that but does that necessarily make it better? Religion is a prime example. Christianity is the most popular religion in the World (apparently) but does that mean that being a Christian is better than being a Muslim, Hindu, Sheikh, Jew or non-believer like myself.

I follow both teams and both sports, but prefer RL. I know people who follow both sports that prefer football. It’s all about opinion.

Last two words The Egg. The world, not the UK, not Europe, not the M62 Corridor the world. A pretty bold statement yet to be backed up. My question was a simple enough one – if it’s so great why does hardly anyone in the world play or watch it?

No offence mate, and fair play to you for watching both, I wish everyone in Wigan did the same. Sadly amongst the rugby fraternity, their are too many people like Rogues Gallery who instead of supporting their local football team would rather attempt to take the piss out of them and come on here with the sole purpose of muck raking
