A very good game of football witnessed today, IMHO better quality than what I saw in the championship.
Team coming along nicely, especially the two young wing backs. Grigg oozes class just wish that header had gone in.
Hope Caldwell goes in for that Colclough [27], was arguably the best man on the field.
Hope we can back to back it at chesterfield. :cheer:

What a journey!29 August 2015 at 9:30 pm #144488As comfortable a 1-0 win as you will ever see and we looked a good side this afternoon .
Now for a back to back win at Chesterfield next week and if we get that we might be able to start thinking we can do something this season.30 August 2015 at 1:14 am #144489Wouldn’t say it was comfortable. They had a hell of a lot of posession for me. I thought it was touch and go last 30 mins, we sat back a bit and it was a struggle when Davies went off. Thought we should have brought Mccan on second half for Power, not convinced about him yet. A brilliant win though and the home games in the league this season have been enjoyable which is something I haven’t witnessed for a couple of seasons.
Well done the players and G C.30 August 2015 at 1:36 pm #144490Wouldn’t say it was comfortable. They had a hell of a lot of posession for me. Well done the players and G C.I’d pretty much agree with that. Last half hour wasn’t great, ball retention poor, subs a bit baffling but a work in progress. In need of a creative midfielder to go alongside the battling qualities of Perkins, Power will get better but at the moment isn’t that player. I presume Junior is injured?
30 August 2015 at 4:27 pm #144493Definitely short of a quality midfielder who can run the midfield. Thought they missed junior yesterday. He seems to have something about him of what I’ve seen.
30 August 2015 at 4:52 pm #144494From what I’ve seen Perkins is running midfield, I think we are OK in that department.
As for Crewe, they always have plenty of possession, no matter who they play. Keeping the ball and playing it on the ground is their ethos and has been since Dario Gradi joined the club. I bet the average age of that team is low 20’s and I also bet that a good number of them have come through the ranks at Crewe.
I don’t think we should take any negatives from that win yesterday, it was a battle of entertaining football and we scored, they didn’t. I’ll settle for wins like that and wins when we are clearly second best. You can’t go through this league battering the opposition, like we did against Scunthorpe, Caldwell realises that and so should we.

What a journey!30 August 2015 at 5:05 pm #144496Griggs class ??? Sure you don’t mean Giggs. From what I saw yesterday Griggs & Davies will be lucky to score 15 between them. The young lad from City/Huddersfield looked more threatening in the few mins he had meaning pace something Griggs and Davies don’t pocess and something we lack as a team bar Reece James.
your fookin easily pleased, lets not forget the saves are keeper pulled off. I think Sharps quote of smash the 100 points will be no more than a dream. The 2 1/2 decent clubs weve played so far comprehensively beat us. I would have made Huwes stay and play or the reserves you go.30 August 2015 at 5:52 pm #144497I must have watched a different game our midfield was awful and grigg well not impressed so far
If we had played a better team we would have been beat with that midfield on show
Only good thing was the deffence and the guy who won the champagne bar ticket
Saying that one guy stuck out in midfield and did really well jacobs was a cracker as for the others poor30 August 2015 at 6:49 pm #144498Griggs class ??? Sure you don’t mean Giggs. Just because they didn’t score, it doesn’t mean that Grigg and Davies had a bad game. Both players have a fantastic first touch and hold the ball up brilliantly. There movement off the ball is also superb, as we saw with the Grigg header that hit the post.
15 attempts at goal yesterday with 9 on target, when have we been producing stats like that since relegation from the prem.
I like to see forwards scoring goals, but it won’t bother me one bit if we keep winning and both these two make the contribution like they did yesterday.

What a journey!30 August 2015 at 8:51 pm #144500… and they say we’re deluded.
Have a read of this:
http://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/Wigan-Athletic-1-Crewe-Alexandra-0-Steve-Davis/story-27700442-detail/story.html“The stats will say we probably had 60% possession” === Er, the stats show 53@ possession to Latics, 47% Crewe
“we controlled the game for large spells but just couldn’t find a way through and it’s difficult when they get back in their shape and men behind the ball” === from where I was sat Alex had 9 men across their penalty area most of the game
“we’ve dominated against a team who will be fighting to go up” === if that’s them dominating I’d hate to watch them when in trouble – I know they had us worried for a spell, but that is more about us knowing our failings of giving away a soft goal rather than them making chances
30 August 2015 at 9:07 pm #144503Also we are still a new team learning together. When the lads get to know each other properly and we gel then watch us go.
30 August 2015 at 11:29 pm #144504great win, good game.Power will hopefully improve and stop pointing all over the place, but why do the bench wear red???

you were either in the bog or specsavers Jesus ter night man31 August 2015 at 12:06 am #144506They had 2 shots on target the whole game. Assuming that none of those were stopped by defenders blocks that means he had a maximum of 2 shots to save. There was on straight at him at the near post. I can’t remember another. So please enlighten me.
