You are obviously on a wind up here Griff or you have completely missed the point and gone off on a tangent

Firstly kids for a quid is not as you put it ‘pretty useless’ – lets say a dad wants to take his two boys
      £36 plus 2 x £20 something = min of £76
      New price Adult £20 plus 2 x £1 = £22
Dont think that is ‘pretty useless’ in the saving of money sense

Our club would have known WHU were going to drop their prices IF THEY HAD COMMUNICATED with them
Then they could have COMMUNICATED with us – something on the lines of
‘We are working with West Ham to reduce ticket prices for the game’

Like I said lack of COMMUNICATION and like I said ITS NOT THE FIRST TIME

You seem to have completely missed the point and latched on to this one issue

If the club were refusing thousands every week because of the database then they would change the policy. The fact that they have stuck by it suggests that they aren’t.

im not talking about 1000s even making it hard for a few hundred would be terrible, not long ago in the carling cup against preston we couldnt get in because the turnstile ran out of tickets, we had to wait for more to be printed missing the first ten mins, that sort of thing is very amatuer, lastly the club is doing a great job but lets itself and the fans down with the ticket policy.

No, I’m not on a wind-up, no I haven’t missed the point and no I haven’t gone off at a tangent – I am responding to your specific point on the £20 versus £36. How can I be going off at a tangent when I am directly responding specifically to your post? :)

I am totally correct that the reduction to £20 only happened this last Tuesday.

The £1 for a kid may well have been announced weeks ago but, in my opinion, with the price of an adult ticket at that time still priced £36, I am not sure how many additional lads and dads that would have attracted. Had the £20 reduction from West Ham happened at the same time as the £1 per kid announcement then I agree it would have been more attractive. But it wasn’t.

I understand the club published details of the new £20 price on the website on Tuesday, as soon as they knew about it. They obviously could have gone to the expense and effort of phoning every season ticket holder or client on the database, for example, but balancing that against the likely take-up, it probably didn’t make sense.

If the club put up the info as soon as they knew, they cant be blamed, especially as it only seems to have happned this week…if thats not the case, then the club are at fault for not communicating properly with fans.

However, most amazing comment of the week award goes to Tea Bag Head for this gem “then they unbelievably offer to refund anyone the difference who bought at £36”. Why is that unbelievable?? Refund or theft, I know which I’d sooner Latics be involved in

Now you see…I have a completely different take on all of this – after all we must look at this reasonably, however obtuse (cryptic if you want).

PSKL starts by saying “I do believe schools get a lot of freebie tickets but how many actually get used?”

(or how many get delivered…how many times have you seen 100 copies of the free paper in the ‘cut/canal’ because of a lazy paper boy/girl?)….this actually is a valid and pertinent point which should be addressed later.

This, conveniently, brings me to the database you talk about, Jayt ,(which I must add is a good thing), however, is it being used to it’s full potential? Question…..when the tickets are ‘given’ to the schools, is an audit trail of which schools/tickets are actually used or collected by the club (measured through the turnstiles)? The results of such a survey may uncover a few ‘discrepancies’ by example (and forgive me for playing devils advocate), are the tickets actually being delivered (there are enough businessmen among us to know the rules) and to whom; and how many (as Sephton says his school only received 10 (ish))? Are the conditions of delivery too stringent? (Mr Garswood will testify to the EVC rules (elf n safety to you and me) that schools have to adhere to – we need to give the tickets unconditionally.

Horc raises a good point/observation about paying on the door/turnstile – this must be investigated further (with the right parameters and transparency i.e. gate receipts and attendance figures….)

The stuff about £36, kids quid, timing argument is just semantics Mr Griff and TeaBagHead; stop having a ‘man-off’ (a ‘dance-off’ would be more entertaining) – there is no right or wrong on this board…………….it’s all about opinion. We are (should be) all friends on here.

Further….absurd post of the week (for me) goes to Mr Abramlatic. Sir, you talk about ‘unbelievably’ then go on to ‘suggest’ that the club may be implicated in theft…… Oh dear! (I refer you to your previous post – get on board fella!)

So – to recap……the free tickets! Are they going to the right place, delivered, monitored, audited, responded?
Trust me on this……Is the Headteacher responsive to the receipt of such ‘generosity’? – just look at the Mayor for example (know what I mean?)
It has been said before….(and from my previous/professional life) communication IS key. Big Posters, radio, local paper, bus posters……..is all old hat. We need………No……..demand, exposure to our youth our communities and their families. Television and radio can only do so much….it can’t live among us – we need ‘hands on’, full exposure to the next generation of supporters.

Now to throw in the proverbial ‘hand grenade’ into the debate – we agree that to be successful we need a SMALL support team at the DW, and it’s not for me to cast ‘aspersions’, however…..and here comes the conspiracy bit….we also have to admit that we are a ‘town divided’ (some with Cherry aspersions/views) should these people be involved in any part of our promotion process then, although professional, there will always be bias. I’m not advocating a ‘witch hunt’, however, senior managers/supervisors must commit to quality control to make sure everything is ‘above board’. It’s a case of those in the ‘Ivory Towers’ knowing what is happening on the shop floor.

            So then Jason…interesting thread eh?

My opinion?…..there are a couple of 5th columnist within, sort them….sort the problem.

            Just an opinion…..like.

I’m also all for people getting facts right when they try to use them to back up an argument.

Meh! – semantics as I said.

After having re-read it I thought you both had valid points to make (factual or not is open to opinion).

You chose,as is your style and prerogative, to use a ‘hammer to crack that walnut’ ;)

Micky, my facts on the timing of the reduction to £20 and the club’s reaction to it (my only point in this debate) are not remotely open to question

Griff,if you chose to re-read what I said; my point was to stop having a ‘man-off’.

                  Not surprised after this afternoon.

You can imagine how much I am looking forward to going to the Emirates on Tuesday. Only saving grace is I think my hotel is near the Flying Scotsman as King’s Cross!
