Is wanted by sunderland should big sam get the england job. Now, where has that certain thread gone?????
19 July 2016 at 5:43 pm #149550Don’t mention that thread!!… :pinch:
He’d be a fool to take that job. He won’t get any time to put in place his tippy tappy football. Them Mackems will have him booed out after 10 games.
19 July 2016 at 6:30 pm #149551If it was what I read, it was one poster suggesting him as a possible replacement should Allardyce get the England job, followed by multiple replies saying “Hell, no”.

Everton was a step too far for a manager with limited coaching ability. Martinez should have stayed at Wigan. I’m pretty sure that the embarrassing 2014/15 season would not have happened with him in charge. DW wouldn’t have been branded a racist, and banned from his own stadium. Malky would still be waiting for another job. Owen Coyle & Uwe Rostler would have been someone else’s failures, and you wouldn’t have spent last season playing Bury, Fleetwood and Colchester.

And winning a league title.

From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!20 July 2016 at 1:43 am #149559And winning a league title.I’d forgotten about that – probably because of the lack of an open-top bus parade to celebrate it, unlike Leicester, Burnley & Northampton – the other divisional winners. Perhaps rather like Sunderland in 1988, Wigan believed that winning the 3rd division was a bare minimum requirement, and anything other than a runaway title win was underachievement. That said, in 1988, there wasn’t £9m of Sky money bankrolling our runaway title, and we had to rely on getting supporters through the turnstiles to generate income, so perhaps the 1988 title win was a bigger achievement?
Anyway, back to your other, more relevant, question? If Sam becomes England manager, then of he available candidates, Moyes would do fine. Like Martinez, he took a job that was too much for him, not helped by Ferguson’s back-room staff being dispensed with.
That said, I’m wondering if the lack of an appointment by the FA is down to Allardyce wanting his own backroom staff, and not the FA’s “Yes men”. If that happens, then the compo due to Sunderland will be a heck of a lot more than just losing a manager who has 12 months left on his contract.
20 July 2016 at 2:22 am #149560I’m sure any compensation will be wisely spent as usual by the Sunderland board.
