      “Heskey quits England scene

Aston Villa striker Emile Heskey has announced his retirement from international football after winning 62 caps and scoring seven goals.”

One of the better players for England this world cup, altough that doesn’t give him the credit he deserves as Wayne Biggins would have been 1 of Englands better players.
Fair do’s Heskey, true football people appreciate you.

        Lucky England.

For a centre forward, his strike rate is rubbish.

And no, please don’t go to great lengths to explain what else he gives a team.

        Big, useless, lump, he is.

if only the tin man could have gone with dorothy to see the wizard !

what a player he could have been if he just had a heart

In the first two games he did the job required, and that he is good at. He won lots of balls, pushed their back 4 backwards, created loads of space for Rooney, who bottled it in a major way, with two absolutely diabolical performances. I could hardly believe what I saw from him. Hardly Heskeys fault that.

OK he never got the goals he should have, but he’s one of the few in that squad that did what was asked of him in the games he had.

I’ve never been his biggest fan, but to ridicule him and make him the scapegoat for all England’s ills as some radio phone-ins have been doing recently is a bit much.

He was clearly asked to do a specific job for England and, for much of the time, did just that selfishly.

It says a lot about the English national team set-up that Heskey wasn’t even considered when he was in top form during his first season at Latics.

He was only given a chance when the press started to sing his praises during his second season ironically when his form dropped and injuries hit.

I for one would have him back at the DW for the coming season.

He sure saved our bacon in the relegation battle with Sheff Utd!.
              That is a fact. 8-)

Ok well Capello, Houllier, O’Neill, Jwewell, Bruce & Sven all rated him highly. You don’t.

I struggling to decide which side to take.

                England scoring records:-

Emile Heskey: played 62, 7 goals

Peter Beardsley: played 59, scored 9

                Not too disssimilar, is it?

                hang on griff…

Dont let the facts get in the way of a public hanging !

Maybe if people decided to look at their hero’s failures rather than someone who tries then they might see the route of the problem with england !

Very good point, Ive never thought of it like that.

You make a good point too griff, Totally different players though.

Who would you take, A heskey in his prime, Or a Beardsley in his prime. Tough one that. I cant call it.

Personally, Beardsley – or are yo being Sarky? :? I thought he was a great player, and I know I am not in a minority of one on that, obviously.

I also know that Heskey and Beardsley were a completely different type of player. The point being that every man and his dog is currently slating Heskey for his poor goal-scoring record and saying that his other contributions to the team are worthless by comparison. If that’s the case then surely we should be saying the same about old Quasi?

Or perhaps he was worth more to the team because his looks would scare off particularly young and nervy defenders?

So just because THEY think he’s a good striker, he is, is he?

The facts don’t lie. He’s a centre-forward who doesn’t score goals, and in my book, that’s not good. Not good at all. Would you have a goalkeeper who couldn’t make saves? A centre-half who can’t tackle? Or a midfielder who can’t pass a ball? No? So why have a centre forward who doesn’t score? It’s ok if you have a goalscorer alongside him….but we didn’t.

Oh no, wait. We at Wigan Athletic have had plenty of those over the years… Because people like you tolerate it.

In my mind, and you won’t change it, a centre forward of ANY team, at ANY level, should be expected to score a minimum of 15 goals in a season.

Oh and as for Beardsley, he was a superb player. The provider for a lot of Gary Lineker’s England goals.

Personally, I’d sooner have Jason Roberts back, than Heskey. I think Roberts could play a good role for us, starting, or off the bench.
