im pleased that the truth has finally come out about what happened that day, and the families of the 96, have an apology from the police, government and hopefully by tomorrow from the sun aswell.

its scary to think how far up the ladder this cover up went, when you read that statements from policemen, ambulancemen, and even a coroner was doctored so it would look like it was the fans fault.

to think how football fans were treated back in the 80’s, it shouldnt surprise me that they tried to pin blame on the liverpool fans…we were put in pens like animals to watch games, i was at the vetch field that day i think, and remember the fencing around the away end there…doncaster comes to mind aswell..

anyway…i hope someone finally gets brought to justice, and the families can get a little bit of closure….liverpool’s anthem really does seem to fit in this case.

the brown stuff has hit the fan with these documents being released. relations between members of the public and the police/media(newspapers) are already at a very low level. This will have a huge bearing on how we view the force that is here to “protect and serve” us in the future.

put it this way, if i was in a dead end and faced with a few knife wielding loons, i would ring the local kebab shop for help before i call 999 and ask for them corrupt tosser’s.

well done to the families for not giving up and putting pressure on the authorities to reveal all. i wonder what else can be revealed about other events/disasters that have happened in years gone bye????????

A minutes silence at Saturday’s games across the country would be most appropriate, as a mark of respect (and reflection by all) to all those affected.

Absolutely scandalous and shameful what has gone on !

I have a lot of good mates who are policemen, and they are all decent people.

Don’t let it cloud your judgement: these decisions were made by people at the top of the police ladder, not the bobby on the beat.

I also know 2 of them (coppers), 1 is a cousin of mine. there are a few “okay” coppers who will turn a blind eye if you or someone they know has done something “wrong”. But the vast MAJORITY are obsessed with their own career’s and pay rise/promotions, that will stab anyone in the back, whether that means nicking some one for a trivial thing or if they are in a bad mood or grassing on a fellow copper just to deny that person promotion.

Just like they view football fans, they think because of a few idiots (lad’s) like a scrap then every football fan must be treated like them!!!!!!!!!!!

they deserve to be viewed/treated the same as they have done to us in the past.

Do you know a ‘vast majority’ of them then?

It’s funny, because the ‘vast majority’ of policemen I know socially and have played football and rugby with in the past have been normal lads who happen to wear a uniform for work. They all like a pint, enjoy a laugh, and prefer not to tell people they do for a job. There are three or four I know who watch the Latics home and away.

But then again, I’m sensible and mature enough not to get myself into a position whereby I’ll come into contact with the police for the wrong reasons.

Have patience, dear readers! My experience of the Police…..

I never used to get the animosity shown towards the Police, until I came into contact with them myself and was left feeling badly let down by them.

Someone I know, a vunerable lady who lives alone with her children, awoke one morning at about 4am, to the sound of banging outside. On looking out of her window, she saw some youths absolutely smashing her car up. (Lived down a country lane, secluded-ish)
She did what anybody else would do and opened the window and shouted at them. She rang the Police and they came out. The youths were long gone.

Morning after, her and her friend were inspecting the damage, smashed windscreen, headlights totally smashed, wing hanging off, dents all over car, HOLE in the bonnet! when low and behold, the youths actually walked back right past them, laughing. She was actually on the phone to the Police, and they insisted a car was close by and on its way. 20 mins later, a PCSO turned up ON FOOT and the youths were long gone. 2 days later, the main protagonist of the youths, returned and threw HALF A PAVING SLAB through her front window. Police came, took statement, went away. Early hours of the next morning, same youth returned and tried to kick her front door down. Again, Police came, he was long gone. It was only on the THIRD time he did this, this time armed with a crowbar, he was arrested at around 5am. When asked his intentions, he stated clearly that he intended to kill her and her children. The lad is a real head the ball (He’s only 16 as well) He was bailed and was eventually sent on tag to a young offenders……except he went AWOL and was arrested once again, half a mile from the ladies house, armed with a knife and a screw driver. (‘kin mentalist, or what?) He had been awol for a few days and we are almost sure he DID turn up whilst I was staying over…we heard sounds out back and shadows running off into the darkness. She had a panic button fitted and whilst the first couple of times the Police arrived in about 2 minutes, it soon got increasingly longer and the last time she called they took, and I am serious, 45 MINUTES! (She unplugged the thing and took it the Police station the following day saying ‘what’s the use?’)

I had been sitting off up there, armed with a baseball bat, waiting to dish out some well deserved punishment. Frustratingly, he never showed up when I was there. Even more unbelievably, the Police threatened to arrest me for having the bat! The lad was jailed eventually for a string of offences, but I believe he has just been released. The lady had to move from her house, due to increased harrasment from his family and friends. (Cars full of hoody wearing dicks parking outside and shining lights in the house, stones at windows, etc) We got used to there being a constant Police presence outside the house. One Sunday, she decided to nip to the shops. As she drove off, the Police landrover followed her. She found this strange, but nevertheless, she carried on. At the shops, he approached her and proceeded to BOOK HER FOR HAVING NO INSURANCE! It had ran out on the Friday (2 days prior to this) and with all the stress and harrassment, she had simply forgotton about it. But it gets better…..

The cop who booked her, was a LANCASHIRE MOTORWAY POLICE cop IN A LAND ROVER. I found it most strange that he had been parked, for around 2 hours, down a secluded country lane, well away from any motorway. We approached my friends contact in CID and he found it strange too, but said that the cop still had jurisdiction, despite not being on a motorway. But here’s the thing. We knew already that the lad (the vandal) came from a scumbag family. We knew his mums name was ‘Shirley’. Now when the cop had been sat in my friends car booking it through, she had walked around to his side of the car (for whatever reason) and he wasnt aware she was stood right next to him. She overheard him talking into his mobile saying “Shirley…we’ve got her!”. CORRUPT BASTARD! Obviously connected to the vandal youth’s family. We told this to our contact in the CID who said he would look into it. Funnily enough, nothing more was heard about the initial ticketed threat of a £250 fine and 6 points.

Corrupt swine who should be sacked!

It may be harsh to label all the Police the same way, but I have lost any faith in them, myself. Like many other sectors of society, they are underfunded and the cuts mean they don’t have enough staff to go round.

I don’t feel like I could rely on them though, I have to say. I believe corruption IS RIFE.

There is the odd corrupt policeman about – there always has been. My late father-in-law was a prime example, who was eventually thrown out of the force. But on the whole, the policemen I know are good people – mostly family men, who you would not know were in the police unless someone else told you.

Everything you’ve written about prior to the Motorway policeman incident is just evidence of a lack of resources and powers. My mates bemoan the fact that they can arrest someone caught in the middle of a crime only for them to be released the next day without charge, and half their time is taken up with paperwork instead of being out on the streets.

Actually, you make a good point.

It’s the CPS (Crown Prosecution Service) that lets this country down. The CID put a solid case together against the youth who had done all those crimes against my friend. The CID OIC of the case was supremely confident that the lad would get a custodial sentence…..only for him to be bailed. That happened on TWO occasions before he was finally jailed for 8 months in a young offenders prison. Everytime he was bailed he was straight back trying to kill my friend and her kids.

I could tell that the Police were very frustrated by the CPS, and were wondering what exactly they had to do to get an appropriate sentencing on the lad. So its the CPS where a lot of the problem lies.

I never came face to face with the scumbag….but I will do one day. If i heard he was dead tomorrow, I would have a party. Honestly.

this cover up goes much higher than your average copper…alot of the police were as helpless as the fans that day, and made statements saying just that. some of them didnt even have a radio!….only any statement made that criticised the police handling of the situation was ALTERED.

ambulancemen’s statements were changed, people that were still ALIVE were put together in a gymnasium with people that were DEAD!…thus not getting potential live-saving treatment.

no..this cover up goes up much much higher than the police, this goes up to government level..and if justice is to be served to the families, then only custodial sentences given to those that are found to be at fault, will suffice.
