I too have had some bad dealings with the owd bill which has led me to the opinion that I won’t give them the time of day now. My brother in law is one by the way.
This is what happened;
-got arrested at nobend with my mate for supposedly racial and aggressive chants.
– Spent the evening in Preston station until being released. When being released we repeatedly told them they had the wrong guys only for the discharging officer us to say, just plead guilty and save us all a load of time. I asked the copper standing next to him to note what his colleague had just said and he replied I heard nowt with a smirk on his face.
– I found out from somebody who works at Deepdale that the police had just installed a mass of CCTV cameras in and around the ground and the instruction from above was get as many arrests as you can to justify this spend. The only time I was on the cctv footage they had was coming back from the snack bar with a pie.
One lad who had also been arrested that day told me that a cop had stood beside him at the game and suddenly started pressing the heel of his boot onto his toe. He said he didn’t react first time in case it was a mistake but when he did it again pushed the copper and was duly arrested.– one young police woman was stood yards from us all the game. We had a bit of banter with her all the match and felt she would be a good witness for us. Got no help from the police in finding her then low and behold on the day of the trial the prosecution asks for a witness that has come up late to be given permission to give evidence against us. Our barrister refused when we found out it was this young cop girl who had obviously been nobbled. She walked past us with head down looking really embarrassed.
– needless to say we were found not guilty and it was the quickest adjournment in the history of cases. The 3 magistrates left the court and before the door had closed came back in again.
I disagree that the bobby’s on the beat cannot be held responsible for whats going on out there. They are there at the cold face when things are going paps up and should take the necessary action, that’s what they are trained to do. They can also ignore requests to get arrests no matter what and report the people above giving these instructions to people even more above.

They are there at the cold face when things are going paps up and should take the necessary action, that’s what they are trained to do.No they are not. In a situation like that they are merely the hired help. All orders come from the Match Commander. They are basically told where to stand, which way to face, what to do, what not to do, and if they have any sense, that’s exactly what they do.
You imagine a policeman suddenly flinging the gates open and he’s been duped which leads to a pitch invasion on live TV with battles between the fans. There wasn’t a bobby there who would risk going against what he/she had been instructed to do.
Even these days, if they do something against orders, they get hung out to dry. I’ve seen it first hand in this country and in Europe; the powers that be (Match Commander, safety officer etc) have complete control and your common bobby dare not put a foot wrong for fear of being hauled across the coals.
14 September 2012 at 12:59 pm #93052There is the odd corrupt policeman about – there always has been. My late father-in-law was a prime example, who was eventually thrown out of the force. But on the whole, the policemen I know are good people – mostly family men, who you would not know were in the police unless someone else told you.
Everything you’ve written about prior to the Motorway policeman incident is just evidence of a lack of resources and powers. My mates bemoan the fact that they can arrest someone caught in the middle of a crime only for them to be released the next day without charge, and half their time is taken up with paperwork instead of being out on the streets.
Actually, you make a good point.
It’s the CPS (Crown Prosecution Service) that lets this country down. The CID put a solid case together against the youth who had done all those crimes against my friend. The CID OIC of the case was supremely confident that the lad would get a custodial sentence…..only for him to be bailed. That happened on TWO occasions before he was finally jailed for 8 months in a young offenders prison. Everytime he was bailed he was straight back trying to kill my friend and her kids.
I could tell that the Police were very frustrated by the CPS, and were wondering what exactly they had to do to get an appropriate sentencing on the lad. So its the CPS where a lot of the problem lies.
I never came face to face with the scumbag….but I will do one day. If i heard he was dead tomorrow, I would have a party. Honestly.[/quote]
The CPS decide whether there is enough evidence to chareg someone or whether it is in the public interest etc.. Once they have done that they have nothing more to do with it
They certainly have absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with sentencing anyone who is found guilty of any offence so I’m not quite sure how they are letting the country down if an offenders sentence is viewed by some as too lenient14 September 2012 at 2:05 pm #93056I know 4 coppers that go watching the Latics, all good lads that enjoy a pint and a laugh and if they didn’t mention they were coppers you’d never know.
What makes me laugh is all the anti cop tales, “got caught with a baseball bat and was threatened with arrest” really!
“A copper stood on his toe, so he pushed him and was arrested” and there was me thinking pushing someone who may of accidentally stood on a toe was the normal thing to do.
When I was younger I had been in trouble with the Police, and at the time it was because the Police were corrupt and had nothing better to do. As I’ve grown older and look back I realised it was because I was being a complete prick.

14 September 2012 at 5:30 pm #93074”A copper stood on his toe, so he pushed him and was arrested” and there was me thinking pushing someone who may of accidentally stood on a toe was the normal thing to do.If you re-read what was actually said in the original post (not the little made-up quote you’ve included), you’ll see he ignored it the first time.
When it happened once again (quite deliberately), then he reacted as any normal bloke probably would.
You don’t go to football expecting to put up with shit like that, so why should he?I’ve had a couple of run-ins with police at away games.
I tend to find it’s only ever coppers at football matches that are complete wankers.
Outside of football, I’ve never had any sort of run-in/bad experience with the police.I actually got kicked out of Old Trafford last season for absolutely nothing.
The people around me were just as shocked as I was that the police had asked me to leave.
I was buying a pie at half time, got my change back, and next thing I’m being asked to leave the stadium as a result of “racial abuse”… unbelievable.
I pleaded my case (which mainly consisted of “I’ve not actually done anything) and I still ended up spending the whole second half sat on a wall outside.
Safe to say I won’t be there this weekend. Not wasting my money.14 September 2012 at 11:01 pm #93100Are Sudworth and snowblind actually coppers? They have both misread my post and reacted like two plebs.
You’ve got it boys, read the evidence then turn it into something that exonerates the perpetrator. If you are not coppers I’d seriously think about it, you at least match some of the person spec. goodpostFrom Matlock to ManU
