It’s very poor but Wigan is a small town and yes St.Helens has quite a few Latics coming to every home match including me but, Bolton, Blackburn and other local towns, unfortunaltly no-one supports Wigan from those areas.

6 February 2010 at 2:42 am #21681My mrs works at a school and all the kids from the local schools were singing on the pitch prior to game tonight. They were told if they bought a certain amount of tickets the price would go down fron £19 per adult, £14 per kid, to £10 for adult and £5 for a kid. The wife’s school bought enough to get the lower price, then suddenly today a wadge of tickets appear for £5 per ticket.

Let’s look at the question – “How Bad Is Our Support” (sic)
ES2 – Loud, sometimes stupid, young and thrusting – just what we need….and that drum is just contagious – quality future there methinks. Rest of East Stand almost equally impressive.
South Stand – ‘compact but bijou, Rodney’ – those that have seats there always attend – no more no less – tend to join in with East when singing.
Springfield stand – The Enigma. The real hardcore….been since 1935, true, loyal, fierce, underrated, ex “springfield runners” (back in the day), to the end, through thick and thin supporters. (Was enjoying a bit of ‘corporate’ during the Everton game and revelled in the spectacle of an angry guy turning, waving and taunting – twice – the 50 or so Everton ‘Guests’ when their goal was disallowed). I’ll give it to the Springfield Stand, they may be the quietest, but they certainly retain the passion they have brought from the Park days.
How Bad Is Our Support?………………Not bad at all actually.
Proud to be one of them.

6 February 2010 at 3:34 am #21689All things considered I think our attendances are pretty good.
Do you think other clubs with towns relative in size and location to us, Rochdale, Bury or Oldham for eg would average more?6 February 2010 at 11:48 am #21695Anonymous

Couldn’t disagree more.
ES2, Sing the most, but get outnumbered and outsung by the away fans. The drummer, don’t get me wrong, I think we need one, but I wish he’d actually hit the drum with some rhythm rather than just randomly smacking it.
The rest of the East Stand, hardly join in with the singing, anything above ES4 has no noise atall.
South Stand, always half full. The only people that sit there are under 12’s and peadophiles. No noise atall.
West Stand, the older, more boring, miserable, moaning type of fan that only realised Wigan Athletic existed in 2005. No noise, and typical arm chair fans.

Well Duke your contraversial comments will result in a back lash i’m afraid
6 February 2010 at 2:56 pm #21732Yeah I know, get slated for saying what I think. Again. I can just imagine the cogs turning in Griff’s head as to what pedantic comment he can put in response.
6 February 2010 at 3:00 pm #21734Well Duke your contraversial comments will result in a back lash i’m afraid  :roll:These deluded young ES2 idiots don’t realise that they can’t even be heard from in the West Stand. While they are fannying about playing drums that can’t be heard and generally embarrassing themselves in front of the much more sophisticated away fans, the West Stand intelligentia gets on with watching the finer points of the game.
6 February 2010 at 3:01 pm #21735Its just a bit better than the chubbies though…13, 868 ;)Of course, that is more than the crowds for Hull & Notts County added together.
Dont start on free/cheap tickets, as a quick look at http://www.premierleague.com/page/Headl … 13,00.html
suggests that the game against Bolton is £1 per child, and up to 2,000 free tickets are distributed every home game, yet still you cannot attract more than 14000 paying home fans to watch the worlds most popular team sport.
Those who regularly go to the games, particularly those extremely poorly attended cup games, are to be applauded. The other 5000 JCLs and glory hunters are not worth the time of day.
