If Sunderland come in for Figueroa in January, what do you think Whelans response will be from these two replies:

“Im sorry Steve but as we have no cover and have a depleted squad, the lad can not be allowed to leave unless he wants to at the end of the season.”

”We can pick up a replacement from Trinidad. £5m and he’s yours Steve.”

So, what do you reckon will be Mr Whelans stance?

All depends upon how much Figueroa wants to go. As we saw with Cattermole, if a player is desperate to go he will go and Whelan can do nothing about it.

Leaving him rotting in the reserves is not an option, that’s not how football works these days.

So, if I had to stick my neck out, I’d say answer b)

So he’s not then? Explain to me your reasons why he isn’t then I’ll just completely dismantle your arguement.

                  Cattermole, £4m (I think)
                  Valencia, £16m
                  Palacios, £12m

All considerably more than £2.5m. And in terms of keeping the club financally viable, very good deals – especially on top of all the other money he has invested.

So, if a mediocre player like Figueroa is adamant that he wants to go, I’d take £2.5m though I expect we would get nearer £4m, especially if Bruce wants him in January.

Dismantle my argument? I wouldn’t trust you to dismantle my lad’s Thomas the Tank Engine lego set.

Out of interest which job working for Whelan did you have and expected him to give you a living for nothing? Warehouse picker or Poole’s pie tester?

You’ll note I confined my response to the allegation of money-grabbing.

I can’t comment on whether he’s a t**t and I’m willing to lay good odds that a straw poll of any number of people you’d like to think of will conclude that he is anything but stupid.

The 2.5million was just a random number. If somebody bids around 2.5mil for Figueroa, good luck to them.

Cash is all Whelan is in it for, he’s gotta lucky that Bruce and Jewell? have picked up good cheap players so Whelan can sell them for more.
Where is this 20mil Warchest he’s promised season upon season, were are ANY big name signings? He spent roughly £36million since we got promoted to the Premiership and sold considerably more. I mean Charles N’Zogbia is our record signing for Christ sake.

All he’s after is money money and more money, he doesn’t care for this club he cares for his bank balance.

Btw I’d love to dismantle your son’s play set but he’s probably a bit old for me if he’s playing with Thomas the tank.

Well, I’m good mate but I’m no mind-reader. How was I to know your main argument was a constantly moving feast, to be shifted as soon as someone proves you wrong?

As for big name signings, who do you seriously expect to see here? If N’zogbia costs £6m, what’s the going rate for a “decent” player and how do you think that a club like Wigan (not Dave Whelan personally) can justify spending that kind of money?

As for the war chest, to the best of my knowledge, Whelan famously said ONCE (prior to the first premier season, not every season) that he would match the prem/TV money of £20m with £20m of his own. But, Jewell didn’t spend it.

If you have read Whelan’s book, which you probably haven’t as there aren’t many pictures, you’ll know that the wage bill at the end of the last championship year was £3m and by the time we kicked off in the premier league 3 months later it was £35m. So, we are now in the 5th year of an annual wage bill of £35m. Not much left of the the TV money after that’s been paid, I wouldn’t have thought.

All this, of course, is on top of the money Whelan spent GETTING Wigan to the premier league when there was nothing like that kind of TV money available to him. Now, I suppose you want him to spend every last penny he has on WAFC, but if keeping a few million of HIS money to himslef makes him a stupid, money-grabbing t**t then I guess he’s guilty as charged.

Don’t get me wrong, as strange as it may seem, I am not actually Whelan’s biggest fan – he definitey has a number of faults, but fleecing WAFC financially is not one of them, in my opinion.

And finally, as someone who spends most of his time posting abusive and insulting replies on this board, don’t try getting all chatty and chummy about my lad’s lego just because you know you’re losing your argument.

Apologies – by the way you go on on this board I’d of thought you were a mind-reader with all this rubbish your spouting. Proved wrong? Where?

Big name signings don’t have to come at a massive cost, Saha, cheap pay as you play, Owen, free, pay as you play. Wigan are making ample enough profit to afford such signings or Whelan wouldn’t still be here.

As for the war chest, to the best of my knowledge, Whelan famously said ONCE (prior to the first premier season, not every season) that he would match the prem/TV money of £20m with £20m of his own. But, Jewell didn’t spend it.

He’s promised mega money nearly every pre-season, how many times has he back it up? Not once. Jewell probably didn’t spend it cause Whelan probably wouldn’t let him.

If you have read Whelan’s book, which you probably haven’t as there aren’t many pictures, you’ll know that the wage bill at the end of the last championship year was £3m and by the time we kicked off in the premier league 3 months later it was £35m. Poor attempt at a dig there mate, your title as ‘best poster’ is well deserved… not.

Up from 3mil to 35mil? Over 11 fold up, I think not. Even with an increase in squad wages, we only signed Hall, Kirkland,Heskey, Landzaat and Kilbane, if the whole squad were on 3million between them, wage increases wouldn’t have been big and these guys wouldn’t be on mega bucks. The money from TV will be over 30mil, add to that, gate reciepts, private function hire(wouldn’t still be running if it caused loses.) stadium catering(run by Whelan), rent for the Worriers, prize money from league + cup, transfer income. I think they all add up.

All this, of course, is on top of the money Whelan spent GETTING Wigan to the premier league when there was nothing like that kind of TV money available to him. If/when Wigan become financially unviable, Whelan will be off quicker than a Prostitutes knickers.

End of the day it’s money money money and he spouts about wanting the best for Wigan, it’s not, it’s what’s best for his bank balance.
