I think it helps that he plays for one of the best teams ever to grace a football pitch.
Don’t remember him being particularly outstanding in the 2010 World Cup.

There’s a very thin line between Messi and Diego Maradona for me. Not much between ’em.

However, if over the next couple of years Messi keeps playing like he is and refrains from snorting that thin line, then I’ll agree with you.

          Ha Ha.

Without doubt the best player I have ever been lucky enough to see on a football pitch.

However, before he can truly be hailed as the greatest, or even one of the greatest, he must perform at the highest level internationally and that means the World Cup. He hasn’t done that yet.

Never mind the childish masturbating smiley, don’t you think the sarcastic winking smiley in his original post was a dead give away?

Nothing quite like making a twat of yourself whilst trying to make a twat of someone else.

                No smiley needed.

sorry my mistake- did you mean to put one of those winky things there as well?

let me know seeing as its now the universal emblem for irony or sarcasm – i’m ever so confused by it.

True, but he also isn’t mentioned as an all time great as often as Pele and Maradona either. Well, not outside the UK at least.

You have definately missed the winky with that statement – but no doubt you have researched that ‘opinion’ before making it as well as your mate did.

As regards to his World Cup,all good players need good players around them to bring out the best in them ( Think Pele and Brazil ) Argentina have been fairly poor of late and have underachieved ! Now with Barcelona we see how good he really is because no player can do everything on their own. Now he doesn’t often pick the ball up in his own box and go on a solo run to score but he does have a knack of turning nothing into something when receiving a half decent ball ! I have seen a lot of good players in my time of watching football ( 40 yrs ) since I started to fully take it in and I still think this kid is way ahead !!

                  One edit deserves another.

Absolutely right LMB. It was your mistake.

In order to perform at World Cup you need to qualify and play in one. You can’t judge Best in the same way because Northern Ireland never qualified.
Messi on the other hand plays for a star studded Argentina (Tevez, Milito, Mascherano et al) and qualified for the last World Cup where he was a disappointment. Hence my opinion that he needs to prove it at that level. You’re George Best argument doesn’t stand up.

I actually think Messi is one of the greatest ever, but he really does need to turn it on at the next world cup to stop any doubters.

Now I could leave it there, but as you’re confused by the smileys, take it as read that this is where the childish masturbating smiley thing should go.
