As regards to his World Cup,all good players need good players around them to bring out the best in them ( Think Pele and Brazil ) Argentina have been fairly poor of late and have underachieved ! Now with Barcelona we see how good he really is because no player can do everything on their own. Now he doesn’t often pick the ball up in his own box and go on a solo run to score but he does have a knack of turning nothing into something when receiving a half decent ball ! I have seen a lot of good players in my time of watching football ( 40 yrs ) since I started to fully take it in and I still think this kid is way ahead !!
I agree that Argentina have been poor, but it’s not through lack of quality players. They have Higuain, Milito, Mascherano, Tevez, etc.
I also agree that Messi is probably the best ever, but I maintain he needs to prove it at a international level. If only because he was poor a the last World Cup. Mind you their Manager might have been partly to blame. ;)
There’s a very thin line between Messi and Diego Maradona for me. Not much between ’em.However, if over the next couple of years Messi keeps playing like he is and refrains from snorting that thin line, then I’ll agree with you.

As much as i hated the cheating coke-head you have to admit he used to get some rough stuff on the field.I doubt Messi can take the same stick.
I don’t know whether you’ve noticed, but nearly every time Messi scores with his head, there is nobody challenging him, in fact usually not within 2 yards of him. When he does get challenged he either heads wide or loses the header.

What a journey!Maradona for me…..Inspired a sleeping napoli and led them to 2 Italian league titles,Italian cup and Eufa cup.Then in 86 led an average Argentina squad to world cup success.At the moment he just edges it for me as Messi is playing in a team loaded with talent and possibly the best club side ive seen.Pele as expected has to be up there, but he played nearly all his career in Brazil and his national team was crammed with football folklore names..
