Just thinking If we do get relegated, how many people behind the scenes at Wigan Athletic will lose their jobs??
For some people it won’t be just the disappointment of being relegated it will be a case of losing their livelihood.
It’s a business, so that’s what sometimes happens. As it happens, however, our club has been run quite well, financially, and so we may well cope better than others might.
What about the revenue that the club as given to the local economy merely by being in the Premiership . A lot is said by the red side of town about the amount of away fans that boost our crowds but the away crowds add money to the local economy beit local hostileries to a humble chippy/pieshop

It will be a p..s take if anyone loses their jobs as the reason being the Chairman wouldnt make the only change needed to keep us in with a chance of staying up.

He’s the Chairman….there’s the clue.
If it’s his club, nothing is a p*ss take, as he can do as much or as little as he wants to.
My mate went to the rugby forumn last week and there chairman said it would be a bad thing for them if we went down because of the up keep of the stadium

The upkeep of the stadium is down to the landlord – I am still uncertain who actually is the owner of the Stadium as the transfer from Whelco to WAFC never seems to be announced as a done deal.
That said, Mr Leneghan, whilst saying it would be a bad thing in public, must be thanking his lucky stars that he has a lease with a rental figure on it that is legally binding.
If relegation is forthcoming, I would expect DW to be handing over the stadium to WAFC pretty quickly – after all, he’s already sp*nked £100 million of his fortune – the last thing he’ll want in his old age is the continued upkeep of the stadium if it is hosting the likes of Barnsley & Brighton, rather than Man Utd & Arsenal.
When big Dave finally steps down if the new owners decide they don’t want the rugby playing at the DW then they’ll be out, one way or another they’ll be out!

Not to throw you or anything.
Even when Whelan sells, there are 2 points of contetntion for you.
Firstly, if he has signed over the Stadium to Latics, there is at least a 49 year contract with Warriors for them to rent the Stadium.

Yep. The only way we’re (well the rugby) going anywhere is if the Latics owners build us a nice new ground. Most rugby fans would take that.

The rugby club provide a regular steady income and pay 50% maintenance costs for the ground. It wouldn’t really make sense to get rid of a source of income and there would probably be compensation payments for breaking the lease. It would just be wasting money, especially if Latics were to be relegated. As long as Wigan Athletic remain in the top league (which looks very likely) they will always have preference and the rugby will not interfere with anything.
