I hope Martinez fails spectacularly, Lied his way out of the club, Left us in the lurch and did the opposite of everything he said he wouldn’t.

And how the f*** do you know?

I’ll say again, there’s an awful lot of people on here who couldn’t wait for Bob to f*** off moaning like f*** at him now that he has done what you wanted.

Makes no sense. Much like most of the posts made by the same people.

I dont think he is tactically good enough to create the sort of performance in the FA CUP final where Martinez seemed to leave Mancini with no ideas.

And I dont think he would take us any further than the bottom end of the Premiership.

Not often I disagree with you Salford, but seriously?

Not tactically good enough? Hmm. Which end of the field? Bruce gave us one of our tightest defences in 8 years. How did Bob’s defensive tactics compare?

No further than the bottom end? Hmm #2. Where did we finish with him in his full season? And Bob’s highest positions of 15th/16th in 4 years took us where exactly?

I’d definitely have him back to get us up, but he’s not a long term solution as he would unravel or at best mothball all the hard work that’s gone on behind the scenes.
I was referring solely to the fa cup final that even the darkest of darksiders cant deny was a masterstroke! but Martinez is a better tactician than Bruce IMO.

nothing special about the way Bruce sets up a team by any stroke of the imagination.

his defensive record speaks to itself according to most on here but I think he is lost against the better teams who can break you down.

I would argue you could take a handfull of Martinez’s games in charge and say they are the best performances in latics history.

People who called his teams negative I think are tactically naive as the top and tail of it seems to be anything other than knocking it forward and hoping for the best was according to them negative.

I can’t think of a game under Martinez where we have done anything but try to attack from the first whistle to the last.

unfortunately we lived and died by that sword.
A handful of good performances in 4 seasons, absolutely marvellous :woohoo:
Not what I said and not the case at all.

Southampton at home is still pretty fresh in the mind off the top of my head.

Exactly, The majority of it has been total dross, It’s easy to palm over the 9-1, 8-0, 5-0 and multiple 4-0’s with ‘We won the F.A Cup. He may well turn out to be a good manager but in 4 years here he was bloody awful. This youth system he spouts about, No home grown Wigan players have come through it yet, Just players signed from other sides who were lumped into it. AND… This youth thing will disappear now Roberto has gone anyway. Whelan won’t have that little problem on his shoulders now. Under Bruce we played some good stuff, We finished comfortably and didn’t leak a guaranteed 2 goals a game. I hope Martinez fails spectacularly, Lied his way out of the club, Left us in the lurch and did the opposite of everything he said he wouldn’t.

I dont think we were particularly negative against Southampton but they were defintely the better team that day and that is one game in particular we really missed Kone.

Highlighting that brings me to another point that never under Martinez was there not a period of a game that we totally dominated.

Fair enough that ranged from a 20 to 80 minute spell depending on the game but there were always ideas and creativity there.

IMO Yosser you struggle to understand simple tactics and the best we get out of you on here is along the lines of “you defend then you score its not hard” life you have it all figured out.

Dont get me wrong I am no master tactician myself but I am afraid to break it to you that your ignorance is not bliss.

I dont understand what you mean about the homegrown players not sprouting out of Martinez youth policy.

Do you want him to start grown players straight out of pies in Wigans town centre?

It is clear to anyone with half a brain that due to the catchment area and multi million pound youth academies surrounding us in every direction that if you want to bring decent youth players through you are going to have to be inventive.

Not in my time have I ever seen a period where we more young upcoming players in the squad than we currently do.

Dicko, Mcmanman, Fyvie, Golobart and Nicholls to name the ones closest to the first team.

Martinez signed three of them and I personally am giving 80% of the credit to Martinez for making Mcmanman the player he became last season.

What a gem of a comment!

I’ll name three off to top of my head who have come through the ranks:

Lee Nicholls – signed from amateur football as a young lad
Calum McManaman – signed as a 16 year old when Everton deemed him not good enough and released him
Roman Golobart – signed as a 17 year old

The youth system that Martinez developed is four years old. So homegrown lads who were signed when they were 12 or 13 are still only 16 or 17 now. The Wigan youth set up is full of homegrown players.

Alternatively, if you want a player to come into the youth setup and be ready to step up to the first team squad in a year or two, – like Fyvie or Campabadal of course you have to sign him from another club because 12 year olds can’t play in the Premier League!

And why is ‘this youth thing’ a problem? Far from it. The ‘youth thing’ is there to counteract a problem – ie. we can’t afford to simply buy players and we have a need to produce our own.

No, I just like to toss grenades into threads and watch you all go barmy.

Frig all else to do in the off season.
