other than that i like the idea of a new song based on the lyric, “i’d give my left testicle for 3 points tonight”

Underground, overground, one-ball for three
Back to back wins in March, eunuchs are we

Will this do you for starters?
Brilliant! That deserves a cider. Brick, 630 for 645?

Yep, I’ll be there. Geordie Mark (from WNF) is on about meeting there.

Whilst I admire your effeorts to co-ordinate this type of thing (even if it isn’t my cup of tea) I really hope you’re unsuccessful in getting this absolute turd of a tune played as the players come out. Please leave it in the music bin in which you found it!!

Totally agree. I think its a scary thought letting this lad pick the music we run out to. If Eds reading this. Please dont.

Are these “meet and greet” things just for the kids? I mean no self respecting adult would attend one of these, would they?

Ballons and Fancy dress? United fans will piss there keks.
I did and I am an adult…. maybe not by some peoples standards on here.

Dont get the bashing of the meet and greets at all tbh especially when it has clearly had a positive effect on the players.

Hell it even goes part the way to show that Wigan is not completely rife with moaning pensioners ….. not completely anyway :side:
As I said, it’s not my cup of tea at all but if someone wants to do it whether they’re 5 or 55 I couldn’t care less – in all honesty though I doubt that it has made one jot of difference to the players & their performances on the pitch. Yes it would be better than people turning up lobbing poo at em but at the end of the day there’s 2 & a quarter hours between tonight’s meet & greet & kick off. During which time they’ll have done warm ups, received treatment on any knocks, had their team talk from the management, walked out in front of 20 odd thousand people, done the handshake & soaked up the pre-kick off atmosphere. The meet & greet will be so far from their minds at that point. Bobby saying it helps is more likely a PR exercise on his behalf to make the fans who do it feel wanted & encourage more people to join this & at the same time keep the possibility of anti-protests taking place.
Not knocking anyone who does it & it won’t have a negative effect but lets not kid ourselves that it has anythign to do with the recent up turn in form

That song is garbage though & I fail to see how in any way shape or form it will make a blind bit of difference to the atmosphere or players. – hopefully as a former muso Ed Jones will politely decline the request
Of course it makes a difference!

If you were there you would have seen the players were obviously very happy to receive a such a welcome ( except Kirkland who looked very unhappy )

Surely this transpires to the thought that when they step onto the pitch that they want to put that extra ounce of effort for the fans who stick by them through thick and thin!!!

Football is all about getting behind your team and your team giving you something to get behind them about …

It was referred to as a catch 22 on here not long ago.

If you dont think the meet and greets help then you must be of the same thought that cheering the players on during the game doesnt help.

Letting someone know you are behind them in numbers will spurr them on its called motivation and if the fans can provide even just a little bit of that for the players then FAIR PLAY

Players need to be in the right frame of mind when they go on teh pitch, there is the usual mental conditioning that goes on in the week, but I can see how having that extra boost just before going into the changing rooms can help.

In the week they just have the manager/coaches telling them everybody loves them. But to have the fans actually stood there when you arrive at the ground gives that lift that no psychologist or coach can goive them, it gives them a feeling of well being and that will translate onto the pitch.

Players are fickle, but after they get past the blushing at the reception they will be talking in the changing rooms abou it and it will give them a lift.

Good on those that turn up for it, If i can get away from my meeting in time i will also show my face…..

Again we’ll have to agree to disagree.
I’ve no doubt that it provides a brief boost to their ego & what not but when it comes to kick off it won’t be making a blind bit of difference. It won’t do any harm & if its what you like then knock yourself out but it won’t be making any difference during the game
On to that singing & chanting, providing an intimidating atmosphere during a game can obviously influence a hell of alot from your own team to nervous opposition players to referees. Completely different kettle of fish to 20 – 100 people (no idea how many go) clapping & cheering when you get off the coach

in terms of the meeters and greeters …

doing nothing would DEFINITELY not help
doing something may POSSIBLY help

it’s not really for me but fair play to those who are making the effort

i have sharpened my scissors and said goodbye to my left testicle just in case

Footballers are very delicate animals that need attention, but only as and when they feel like it.

I have no doubt that I and many others would love getting out our cars to go to work and be surrounded by fans wanting photos and autographs.

However, from looking at the video of the meet and greet, I got the impression that most of them looked only too keen to get through that stadium door and back to the comfort of their own pre match routine.

I’m all for this meet and greet stuff, but got a sickener when doing the meet and greet at Bournemouth all those years ago. A gang of about 50 fans went outside the players hotel which was only a few doors away from the one we stopped at. One by one the players strutted out, heads down like lambs going to be slaughtered, including Benno god bless him.
Just two players had the decency to look up and acknowledged the fans namely Scott Green and you guessed it……………Roberto Martinez.

So my view is, good luck to you if you want to try and get the players lifted for the game, but give them the space to walk and wave instead of asking them to sign everything put in front of them and pose for one photo after another.

From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!

I have mentioned that if this is to carry on then no autographs and posing for pics as eventually the players WILL get sick of it. I was berated for suggesting that ! Like many it is not for me but if these happy clappers want to carry on then fine. Eventually the numbers will dwindle and it will die out but in the mean time like those copper bracelets some people wear for rheumatism, if you think it works then fine by me !

It definitely did work because the players (via the manager, the press officer and the chief exec) told us it did.

However, I agree that the novelty will probably wear off soon, but if people are prepared to do it until the end of the season I can’t see that being a problem.

How many more games, so not got too long to wear off.

As for those who still insist on questioning it, what was our home record prior and home record since organising these things?

Atmosphere on ground before and after these events?

Absolutely fantastic support and I’m proud to be part. I’m also proud to say this will continue for our last two home matches. About 500 last two, wonder if there will be a few more for our Wolves meet n greet if we are again confirmed staying up prior?

Wonderful effort from all last night and with the players, the chairman. the directors, the manager and of course the results saying we make a difference, we can be be delighted all this was done with unity.
