I know it just questions why. Surely in this scenario however good or bad he is even Billy would be better than no striker or a makeshift striker.
Is Will injured or off to Hull?
Who knows these days. What is stated by clubs is often much different than reality and if the offer is over a million we will be listening. Others sniffing around players can often turn their heads and this is when these sudden injuries develop. Agents offering silly money can also get to players too.
Jason Pearce was far from our greatest ever defender so what really happened there? Clubs will feed us fans any shite.

We’ve never been a club that have had an abundance of strikers, plenty of midfielders but never strikers. Good strikers these days are as rare as rockin horse crap, hence expansive, hence why we in effect only really have Grigg. Weve always seemed to take a punt on relatively unknowns and hoped for the best, some have been expensive flops, some have just .. well picked up their wages and either benched or sent out on loan. it worries me that we only have grigg, and hes untested at this level, let alone be sold to the likes of hull, in effect 2 steps up. The club aren’t stupid, Caldwell knows far more than we ever do/will, so we just need to trust his decision making .. he hasn’t done much wrong so far has he ..

As for Pierce, in my opinion the club couldn’t win in this situation – he had an offer from a club down south where he is from, he expressed a wish to go (by the way didn’t go on strike, kick up a stink etc, just got on with his job) and he only had 12 months left on his contract. yes we could have made him stay, but then we could have had an unhappy player and also lost him for nothing. The fact he moved to a club a division lower shows it had nothing to do with ambition or money, purely to be closer to his family, after all footballers are human beings like us. Good Luck to him I say.

And he will be virtually guaranteed first team football at Charlton which I think is one of the main reasons he left.
Good luck to him and thanks for all your effort in helping us to the title last season.

Ellington and Roberts ripped this league apart. Have no idea how since they played together in the same side and we all know that playing one up top on their own is the best tactic. Lee MacCulloch a third striker played with them out wide. We had an abundance then. It’s just these days they seem to favour midfielders as strikers and defenders ( wing backs) as midfielders/wingers.

I get what you’re saying donny re: ellington & roberts, but that was over 10 years ago & football has since changed & moved on tatically.

In some cases it as moved on. Burnley have gained promotion twice recently using quite traditional tactics and Leicester both gained promotion and then stayed up and then won the Greed League with similar tactics. Maybe the wheels will keep turning and come back round to two strikers and an out and out winger. I think GC is the kind of manager to look and change things if things are not going right like he did last season when we starting attacking from the midfield rather than walking the ball around. Who knows what will happen. First priority this season will be safety so we may have to put up with the cautious boring stuff but who knows attacking may put more points on the board. Who would be a manager. They never will get it right for everybody.

Yes indeed burnley won promtions with said tactics & also got relegated twice with said tactics, & i have a feeling they will be relegated again. Leicester was a one off & i personally can’t see them doing well in the CL with said tactics.

I agree with you that caldwell will have learned fast after yesterday. It was one of the things that impressed me so much about him last season, whereas a certain predecessor would have continued using his same tactics & why he was eventually sacked.

What i dont understand about yesterday was in after taking grigg off, going completely defensive. Was davies injured yesterday? If not a like for like substitution should have occurred to keep the momentum going. Only go defensive in the last 5 – 10 mins.

But to be fair we lost by a cruel deflection & before the start of the game, i would have settled for a good away point.

There was a Bristol City can on Latics Speak saying he couldn’t understand why Latics had defended so deep in the second half.
I think the Dingles were relegated twice because they didn’t play the Premier League game of spending to survive. They went up and took the money and that was their intention and well done Dingles.
