Author accuses Martinez of being naive – how naive is he himself?
Probably seen a couple of matches on MoD and he is the expert on Wigan Athletic. A little more research would not have gone amiss but then again; what’s new?
XXXXX – who are you? Are you Tony Pulis in disguise trying to get Martinez fired so you can introduce your exciting brand of football to the DW?
I agree with most of it, the bottom line is year on year failure in the league with his 3 year plan resulting in us being relegated, being on the edge of your opponents box and choosing to pass back to your keeper continually leaves me scratching my head & let’s be honest we were very lucky to scrape through against Bournemouth & Macclesfield in the cup, I do actually like Martinez but am yet to be convinced he’s destined to be a Mourinho .

I don’t think what I,or anyone else says on here will get him the sack. That is up to our beloved owner and I don’t think he will have an account on here to listen to us.
I was just asking your opinions on an article I had read and as I stated,I agree with it especially martinez not having a plan b.We had to score.2,3 and sometimes 4 goals just to get a draw. Some say we went down because of our injuries in defence, but even with a defence we were shipping 60 goals + a season since Martinez arrived. He would say in his interviews, they will learn from these mistakes, but either he or the defence never learned, they made the same mistakes again and again.
I like Martinez’s style of football, but with a plan to mix it up a little if we get into trouble.Prime example ,2 of the goals against Swansea,if we had cleared the ball downfield they wouldn’t have scored.
It is just my opinion on the article and Martinez.sorry for any offence to you good self and others, who don’t agree.
yours,t.p(the track suited one)

The theory is that whoever controls the ball controls the game. If we have the ball then our opponents can’t score. When we have pushed men forward, it is essential that we don’t lose the ball because we will be punished by speedy counter attacks. This is the reason why we don’t shoot at every opportunity – one blocked shot and an unlucky rebound could lead to disaster at the other end.
Martinez can’t be held responsible for individual errors (Figueroa’s and Watson’s spring to mind). There are times when the better option is to just clear the ball or put it in row Z. The problem with just hoofing the ball is that it usually comes straight back so nothing is gained and the initiative has been given to our opponents.
Martinez’s other constraint is MONEY. He can’t afford the Ferdinands of this world so he has to coach/educate youngsters et al and make do with a paper-thin squad. To have a plan B you need players on the bench to execute that plan, it’s a shame he can’t afford Messi as a squad player.
Just my view – you are obviously entitled to yours.
don’t you just love articles like this ….. :silly:
what they never mention is how each year, the top half of the EPL gets stronger and stronger not only the usual suspects with Billionaire owners and bottomless money pits, but now the lesser clubs too (like Southampton for example, Sunderland, Newcastle, even Norwich)are all able to pay the transfer fees and wages to get the good players from abroad, the ones that might not have come otherwise …… this makes it harder and harder each year to survive so comparing season 2012-13 to 2007-2008 is just nonsense ….. we got relegated this year, but not by a huge margin, sod all really over the course of the season. We could have easily stayed up.
In my opinion, and others will disagree, Roberto has taken WAFC to a totally new level, both on and off the field …. they are a totally different footballing club to the one that Jewell took up and have such a solid and bright future …..

possibility of losing our best players

That has to go down as the quote of the century “The FA cup success is papering over the cracks”.
