This is the most pathetic story i have read for a long time. The country has officially gone barmy.

It is being implied that because there are not that many black managers in the leagues the powers that be want it to be compulsory that one is interviewed for a vacancy. Is that not racist to us(whites).

What if, Just say, there are not any former black players who have the coaching badges available at that particular time. What then, Wait for months not being able to appoint a manager. Or even there is one or two candidates but they are crap and would be pointless in interviewing them anyway. It’s kind of like having someone like Martin O’Neil interested in your club so you interview him. Now you wouldn’t then go and interview Lee Ashcroft for it because it is a no brainer. Ridiculous P.C bollox

The PFA are investigating forcing clubs to put black candidates on shortlists for managerial vacancies.
Since Paul Ince left Notts County in April, only two of the 92 English league teams have black managers, Chris Powell at Charlton and Birmingham’s Chris Hughton.
Discussions with the men who brought about the implementation of the ‘Rooney Rule’ in the United States, credited with getting the NFL to a position where two black coaches faced each other in last season’s Super Bowl, are at an early stage, with further talks are planned.

And PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor feels it is an avenue that has to be explored.
‘In football terms, we are the most cosmopolitan country in the world,’ observed Taylor. ‘There is no distinction between colour, creed, nationality or background.
‘However, the PFA spends a lot of money training players for the future and understandably, one of the most obvious areas of interest is coaching and management. For some reason the number of black people who actually get a chance in this area is very small.’
The same situation used to exist in the NFL until the Rooney Rule was drafted by civil rights lawyer Cyrus Mehri.
Implemented in 2003, the Rooney Rule was forced to overcome some initial teething problems.
However, once the NFL showed they were prepared to take tough action against clubs who did not follow the law – fining the Detroit Lions 200,000 US dollars for not interviewing an African-American for their vacant head coach’s job in 2003 – teams fell into line.
And Taylor feels a similar situation in England would be a win-win outcome given the increasing clamour for success.
‘All we are asking for is an interview,’ he said. ‘But the more times people attend interviews, the greater the likelihood of them eventually getting a job.
‘This has to be a good thing because it broadens panel of potential managers and coaches clubs are selecting from and opens up the possibility of greater experience. That should be what every club is looking for anyway.’

Invited by Taylor, Mehri met members of the PFA, League Managers’ Association, the Football Association, Football League and Premier League at Wembley On Tuesday, ahead of England’s victory over Wales.
‘We are committed to this issue and Cyrus’ experiences can offer us an insight and some solutions that can begin to address a concern that will not go away on its own,’ said Taylor.
‘Twenty years ago, Cyrille Regis and Luther Blissett did not try to carve out a career in management because they did not feel they would get a proper chance.
‘In 2011, it is in no-one’s interests for potential managers to be put off for similar reasons. We will not be taking this off our agenda.’

its absolutley ridiulous its so pc its barmy. it reminds me of the south africa cricket team where a few years back they put in place where they have to field at least 5? black players in there team. its counter productive and is just going too far. What if all the best players are white you would expect them all to be playing. alternatively if all the best players were black you would expect them to be playing.

The same Paul Ince who plays the race card when he’s sacked?

Bad news that fella. Ability to manage isn’t colour orientated, its who can do the job best. It reminds me I flicked over the House of Lords channel thing and one guy was arguing with a PC nonse that its the best person for the job to work in the civil service, not balancing it out with different members of society in the name of “equality”, forgetting the ability of the individual.

Yes it has gone mad but have you noticed when you hear stuff like “complaints at England flag on taxi” you never get to see the complainant?! Same with these health & safety types. They go unnoticed and are unaccountable.

Am sure one day people will stop thinking about it as them and us. We are all the same.

I suspect there is a lot of racism left in the game, especially at a managerial level, however how do you tackle this? Let it continue as it is and it wont change or try and introduce measures to help balance the ratio.

I was under the impression that positive discrimination was illegal in this country, although I think that if someone with a disability matches all the job spec then they are guaranteed an interview so the PFA may try & introduce something like that

I don’t think that it would get as ridiculous as a club not being able to appoint a manager if there were no black candidates to offer an interview to but don’t let that get in the way of a “political correctness gone mad” rant!!!

To be honest, if the PFA are moving on this because they’ve got some form of evidence that is able to show/prove that black/asian etc.. candidates for posts are being ignored for interviews for white candidates with no more qualifications or experience then I can see where they’re coming from.
If their only evidence is 92 professional clubs, only 2 non-white managers & therefore the clubs are racist then I get the initial posters point (well some of it anyway)

I personally agree with clarity in equality of applicants for job interviews. However this is just pure silliness. As far as I am aware there aren’t any Asian managers in the English game. Are there any Muslim managers? You can go on and on, but to force an interview for someone who is not as educated and qualified, nor holds the skills to do the job compared to another applicant, purely on the colour of his skin is ridiculous. I’ve noticed we’ve all been genderist here too. Are woman going to be forced to apply for Jobs, even though we all know theyd be pap at it.

I demand that at least 10 of the 92 managers should be armish. how racist the clubs are to not include the armish in there interviews! shocking display of racism

Armish? That’s more limbism than racism. Learn to spell, it will make your posts much more effective.

Mind you, if you can’t get “there” and “their” right, Amish is probably a bit of a stretch. ;)

There was a similar rule brought in at a place I used to work at, but it was on the completely opposite scale whereby black applicants were actively encouraged and white applicants talked out of applying.

To be honest, everyone found the system quite acceptable, but that’s the theatre crowd for you, and, who’s ever heard of a white bloke playing Man Friday anyway?

Unfortunately LMB, theatre reference was all part of the humour – even though it was a joke that did not receive the reaction I anticipated. In reality, I couldn’t act my way out of a paper bag.
