Cracking day out bar the result and that train was over subscribed would never have been allowed to leave Wigan in these days of H&s

blooming heck jas didn’t know you was old enough for that trip, I remember the train turning up at the station – everybody thought we was going to crewe to pick up a real train – flaming hell a ‘multi’ only went to southport or bolton – didn’t it take about 5-6 hours to get there?

Never forget being herded into the cattle pen at ********** station waiting to board the train to take us back and everyone mooing and bleating.

Edit: oops! Better put some stars in there.

There were a bunch of City fans on Crewe station that day.

Them: “Where are you going, lads?”
            Us: “***********”
            Them: “On that thing?”

The heating was on full all the way down, then it was blooming freezing all the way back.

Shilts got a lot of stick about his wife leaving him (“Tina! Tina!”), Tony Kelly was excellent in a genuinely world-beating Latics first half, but Jimmy Case turned it around for them in the second half.

It’s that team we might FINALLY get to play next season! I’m sure this stat was mentioned on the BBC website yesterday.

We have played them – I was on the special train when we went there(well not exactly there-there) we battered them and only an inspired performance by the England goal keeper stopped us getting a result.[/quote]

I remember that battered old train very well and yes it did take about 6 1/2 hours to get there and about the same to get back ( i have been to New York faster!)
I think every idiot in town was on it and i seem to remember a welcoming party from the saints at the other end that ran away after giving it the big un(copyright D DYER).
The lights didnt work on the way back it was like a ghost train and i dont remember seeing any guards either.
