Despite the players we have lost and the ones we still may lose we still have twice as much quality in the rest than any of the teams you mention.Thank goodness for that.

Agree with much of what you’vw written, but disagree with the comments regarding Wigan being in Europe.Overseas players see playing in Europe as putting themselves in a European shop-window, and we’ll be well worth a short term contract.
I think we’ll match the bigger and more illustrious clubs in the Championship for signings until the window closes as we’ve just increased our stepping-stone appeal, but after we’re eliminated from Europe it’ll be back to reality.
Maybe, maybe not – I do however remember several managers down the years complaining that qualifying for it was making no difference to their ability to attract players. Sam Allardyce in particular when he was at Bolton mentioned it numerous times
As we’ll be at a lower level however it could well swing the decision of lower calibre players thoughI stopped reading after “Going off prestige, history & club attendances alone ” as they are the things that suit your argument tylders…I could easily say going of recent premier league history, current income and european status alone.

I’ll keep this short coz I’ll save my lengthier post for LMB but I agree that that point suited my argument & you can just as easily say going off recent premier league history etc.. – however you said yiu can’t think of one reason save QPR as to why Latics wouldn;t be the most attractive proposition to a potential player.
Well there was one – if Latics bid for player X & match the terms on offer by Leicester or some of the other clubs mentioned will a few european games against some obscure teams make that much of a difference when instead of playing in front of a big crowd, they’ll more than likely be playing in front of a more than half empty stadium?

David Whelan also said that he knows that the squad needs increasing and that any money recieved from transfers will be used on top of the budget he has set up for replacements, not as you say transfers will fund any purchases.
Lastly players dont give a rats ass about history from years ago or how many come through the turnstiles, they look at 3 things, money on offer in wages, will they be surrounded by decent players to win games and make a step up to the next level, and will they win things.As my new mate Salford says “I cant think of a more attractice prospect than us if you were looking to sign for a Championship this season”
And your opinion that Latics are the most attractive prospect to a potential player is just as much based on speculation & crap too
For a start, whether the players are fringe or not, they still need replacing just in pure numbers terms. Latics squad is down to the bare bones at present & Coyle does have a major rebuilding task on his hands. With the possible exception of Crusat & Henriquez who we never saw enough of, all the others who have already gone were more than capable of doing a very good job in the Championship – just my opinion but if you don’t think that Robles, Stam, Alcaraz, Figueroa, Scharner, Golobart, Lopez & Di Santo would do a good job at this level I seriously doubt how much you actually know about the game!!
Of the clubs I mentioned, Brum have restrictions on them. Sheff Wednesday claim to be skint but their match day revenue will dwarf Latics. 5 of the 12 have very wealthy foreign backers & you can chuck Reading into that pot also. Bolton may show big losses but its all owed to that bloke in the Isle of Man in the form of directors loans & not debt in terms of an overdraft or owt like that
As for the financial fair play rules. That applies to everyone. Latics might get £20mill in parachute payments that 21 other clubs won’t be getting but Latics made a very small profit getting £40mill TV money. How big do you think that profit will be now that the TV income had halved, matchday revenue will fall & advertising income will fall?
If players look at the 3 things you mention, Latics will not be offering the best wages in the division by a long shot. Will they be surrounded by decent players? At this stage can you honestly say that they will with the players who have left & if Maloney, McCarthy, Kone, McManaman & McArthur go? Or even if just a couple of them go? Until you see who Coyle brings in you have no idea & depending on which players are still to go then a third of your theory as to how Latics will attract the right players falls flat on its face
And will Latics win things? Again at this stage that is impossible to say & yet I’m the one talking bullshit with no legitimate basis???
