Leicester…2 strikers, Champions.
Burnley…..2 strikers, Runners Up.Derby…….2 strikers, 3rd & Play off finalists.
QPR………2 strikers, 4th & Play off finalists.Wigan…….0 strikers tonight, half of one on Friday, all so ran headless chickens.
Who in the right mind goes into a must win game without a striker on the pitch. I can’t even remember Martinez playing with no recognised striker.
McManaman and McLean are wingers not strikers, and have not had more than a dozen decent games between them all season.
Beausejour and Maloney might as well have been sat on mi mams couch with me for use they were.
Carson, Kiernan, Caldwell and Perch were good enough, Jordi was excellent again and McArthur was missed when he went off.
Roger was okay but doesn’t have the presence of McArthur.Very disappointed, but it is a blessing we stayed down as we would have needed a complete new team, that said, we may still need a full team once all the crud are moved on.
Hopefully DW will back Rosler during the summer, but hopefully he will make him trim his squad down so he can’t fuck about with the team as much.
13 May 2014 at 4:15 am #130991Absolute shambles tonite. Scored after 9 mins and from then on invited to QPR to come at us. OK if you’ve got strikers who can get them on the break which we haven’t. Derby will muller QPR at Wembley. BTW Derby’s team consists of players “who” “who’s he?” “where did he come from?””didn’t he used to play for Matlock? I’m a big fan of the boys in blue but its about time we found out the same sources as Burnley, Derby and Leicester

Whelan ‘ we know what we need …. trimmed down squad (budget considerations, no Europe league etc.), and a prolific striker (you don’t score goals, you don’t win prizes), .. such a simple game
EPL – City, L’pool (100+ goals); Coca Cola – Burnley (Vokes), QPR (Austin), B’burn (Rhodes) .. etc. etc.
Gomez, our player of the campaign (!!) off ??? sitting down (CCL) into next season won’t help matters thats for sure …

LOL – you know it hasn’t been called the fizzy pop league for about 3 years now CPJ?!
13 May 2014 at 1:52 pm #131018Forgive me if I’m wrong here , but we had 5 so called forwards on the books this season gone
Waghorn
Powell (played up front)
Fatty at Villa
Maynard
Fortune13 May 2014 at 2:14 pm #131020Forgive me if I’m wrong here , but we had 5 so called forwards on the books this season gone

FortuneYes but look at their goal scoring records.
But don’t include Holt as he’s gone all together, wouldn’t have scored many if he had stayed..
Powell is not a forward.Waghorn 178 games including England u19 and u21(31 goals)
Maynard 225 games (84)
Fortune 422 games (89)
Not really a prolific bunch are they.13 May 2014 at 2:17 pm #131021Good call Horc. Funny on rare occasions when we have two or three strikers on its still been one up front and one or two wide or playing too deep.
13 May 2014 at 2:55 pm #131028Well I said last night that I have never seen a side go into a 2nd leg of a play-off that is poised at 0-0 without a single striker! I have seen Spain and Barcelona do it and win but we are little Wigan ffs !
13 May 2014 at 6:03 pm #131051Couldn’t agree more….stunned when I heard line up.We did OK for 20 mins then Harry swapped things round and we spend rest of the game without a forward outlet.
13 May 2014 at 6:06 pm #131052Yeovil – 2 strikers – relegated
Barnsley – 2 strikers – relegated
Birmingham – 2 strikers – relegatedCoincidence?
13 May 2014 at 9:49 pm #131072Birmingham stayed up!! Unless they were involved in some egg chasing end of season knockout bollocks thing were the champions are relegated then play second bottom but lose and go straight to the final against the runners up of the Czech rugby league second division and stay up because they spent double what they are allowed on wages but still don’t lose points because the Greek Rugby League could potentially improve super league Europe by merging the two together hence saving the champions from their relegation fate.
We stayed down because we had no decent strikers Egg Mon. Goals make points just ask the fans at Burnley and Leicester.13 May 2014 at 11:39 pm #131078Forgive me if I’m wrong here , but we had 5 so called forwards on the books this season gone

[/quote]I disagree, if Holt had played in 49 games as Fortune has I honestly think he would have managed more than 5 goals.
He may not have been the 25 goal a season striker we need, but he is a striker and knows where the net is unlike Fortune etc.14 May 2014 at 12:01 am #131082Forgive me if I’m wrong here , but we had 5 so called forwards on the books this season gone

I don’t want a centre forward with a fantastic workrate, I want him in the box knocking the the ball in the net.
BTW, fortune scored his first goal in his 16th match and his last goal 19 matches ago.So I suppose he was quite prolific for the 14 match period in between.
As for Holt, 2 in 16 is a better ratio than 5 in 49 so I was right afterall. -
