    Our fallen heroes. Not his.

Well done on dodging the 2nd part of my post btw.

As for players wearing the blue and white….Nemanja Matic has never played for us, but his choice to not wear a poppy doesn’t bother me either.

But as far as I can recall, Nemanja Matic hasnt then donned a terrorist balaclava a la IRA, nor has he sported the Yugoslav equivalent of the Easter Lilly which commemorates an uprising and killing, nor has he turned his back on the flag of the club he represented as McLean did whilst on tour with WBA. Many folk choose not to wear a poppy, but almost all of them won’t then wear something that disrespects the nation and celebrates the death of British soldiers. That is why McLean is singled out for attention.

More bothered about performances on the pitch than political or religious leanings myself.

He hates this country and what we stand for, quite happy to take pound sterling every month though.

If he doesnt want to wear the Poppy fair enough but to turn your back during the minutes silence is unforgivable, and mark my words he’ll do it again if selected near to remembrance day.

        I agree with him.

Cant say I’m over fond of this country myself. The United Kingdom no longer exists, and Britain is far from Great. We’ve become an absolute dustbin of a nation. A joke. Anybody who thinks otherwise, you’re kidding yourself. You only have to look at Wigan as a town, how its declined, with homeless all over the shop.

Regarding James and the Poppy thing. Its all about where he comes from and what has happened. I fully respect him for his feelings and beliefs. He has said himself if the Poppy just represented the fallen of WW1 and WW2, he wouldn’t have a problem. But the stance is that it represents ALL since 1945 as well. And thats where the problem is. Hes not going to wear something that represents yhe people who murdered people from his own community.

        Neither would I.

Dont forget that people from Jameses community murdered people from communities all over Northern Ireland and the mainland. They also threatened and intimidated people within that same community and fought their war hiding behind children.
Hopefully the peace can bring better times to everyone but it’s quite understandable how people get wound up about Jameses actions.

When the Union Jack and St George’s flag is looked upon in certain quarters as been racist then we are in trouble. To be patriotic on these shores is slowly becoming a thing of the past.

I have friends from both Ulster and the ROI really decent proper folk and they are all of the same opinion that there is never going to be a solution in Ireland . I’ve been lucky enough in my work to have visited Ireland on many occasions both North and South. I’ve been on the Falls Road and Crumlin Road. I’ve seen the divides and it’s an experience I’ll always remember. Problem being all sides dont want peace the troubles have been there for too many generations now for it to be resolved. Atrocities have also been carried out at some point by all those involved so as much as JM,s views and actions offend and are extreme it’s a bit hypocritical to think only his view is wrong.
