6 February 2013 at 11:18 pm #102793some are travelling a decent distance to be there.
Indeed. I’ll be walking for at most 30 minutes to get there.
6 February 2013 at 11:30 pm #102795When do we pick up the tickets, and where? We booked a few weeks back. They are printed, but if we dish them out now people will lose them.
If you really want them now, let me know, otherwise pick them up before the Liverpool game….
Weird how Sharpy’s has had a large number of people wanting to dine that night, two months in advance lol

7 February 2013 at 12:52 am #102815The kit was miles better than the present one.
Sorry dont like us in stripes.
You do realise people have been banned from the site for less ;)
Thing about the kit GL is that I became a fan in 69-70 and saw all our early triumphs in just blue and white. We didnt use stripes till 78 so contrary to what some think as far as im concerned our traditional colours are blue shirts. I know there are many who love stripes but for me the sight of Milne, Gillibrand, Worswick and co in blue is etched in my memories.
7 February 2013 at 1:55 am #102830Mad really to think people can get nostalgia confused with reality.
We are now playing against prem players who are quicker & more skilful.
Devos en Jackson were good but as others say, they were not good enough for the prem. The only difference is we then had a manager that played exciting footy and a team that went forward at every opportunity.
We now have a manager that does not share that same philosophy!7 February 2013 at 2:41 am #102837Thing about the kit GL is that I became a fan in 69-70 and saw all our early triumphs in just blue and white. We didnt use stripes till 78 so contrary to what some think as far as im concerned our traditional colours are blue shirts. 7 February 2013 at 3:54 am #102842A twist to the thread.Would Pj,s title winning side have beaten the FRT winning side in which he played? Jewell,Newell,Methven, Walsh, Kelly,Langley and Lowe to name a few. What a side that was.
7 February 2013 at 3:57 am #102843I’d have Bullard over any midfielder at the club.Ellington over any forward just about.

Is that the Nathan Ellington that failed in the Premier League?
Bullard was a good player but he wasn’t the big deal everybody thought he was. Some of his passing at times was woeful. Better than any midfielder at the club now? Depends what you’re asking him to do.

Harry MacNally never got the recognition he deserved for assembling that side. If that team had stayed together for a couple of seasons, with maybe a couple of experienced signings, who knows? I feel it could have matched PJ’s far more expensive champions.

Looking at the sides (& I didn’t see the 1985 one in action – 2 years before my time) on paper I would say that the 2003 side was better as they absolutely walked away with the title whereas the 1985 side never got promoted. I would also say that the 1985 side has more lower division journeymen in it than the 2003 one (Knowles, Methven, Cribley, Tunks (who I always thought was $h!te), Barrow & Bennett). That said, there are players in the FRT side who I would have over their 2003 counterparts: Walsh over Breckin, Lowe over Teale, Newell over Roberts, Kelly over Dinning
But if you’re talking about value for money paid out then the 1985 side wins hands down7 February 2013 at 4:31 pm #102870A twist to the thread.Would Pj,s title winning side have beaten the FRT winning side in which he played? But if you’re talking about value for money paid out then the 1985 side wins hands down
The 1985 side were assembled for next to nothing, and that was the beauty for fans at that time. Almost the entire side were cherry picked over 2 seasons. The financial status at the club then had a big bearing on the side not being promoted. Players like Butler, Newell, Jewell, Kelly, Walsh, Langley, Aspinall and the curley haired left pegger all went on to play at a higher level. We beat Reading, Derby and Plymouth at home. We seemed Invincible at Springfield Park. When we beat Plymouth at home I thought we’d cracked it. It was an all too brief but unforgettable summer. :(
8 February 2013 at 12:53 am #102912If my memory serves me well the reason the 85-86 side missed out on promotion was due to us selling Tony Kelly to Stoke. Im pretty sure he went after the then deadline day so could not play in any of Stokes remaing few games against teams that were either involved in promotion or relegation. We however had to play 4 sides out of the bottom six and fluffed it.I dont think many at the time could understand why we sold him so near the seasons end.I honestly believe that had he stayed promotion would have been a shoe-in.
