12 May 2017 at 1:15 am #158935Nathan Jones (Luton) is the bookies favourite for the next gaffer and after a quick Wikipedia search I can see that the job he’s done is very impressive, But what if Luton do get promoted … surely Mr Jones would keep with the Squad he has been able to assemble in the season and a half as manager instead of starting all over again …
So who else is on the list
Michael Appleton
Alan Stubbs
Uwe Rosler
Gary Caldwell
Dougie Freedman
Karl Robinbson (who we should of gone for after Caldwell)Then at 25/1 is Mr Jerrel “Jimmy” Floyd Hasselbaink
I think the Wigan job is perfect for any ambitious manager. We proved last year that we are too good for league one and its only through several bad decisions at the top that we find ourselves in this position and back to square one, so a nearly certain guaranteed promotion from league one will look good on anyone’s CV.
Hasselbaink’s has the ambition to manage at the highest level, He took a big risk with the QPR job when at the time their board where going through managers like one of us lot going through a steak and ale covered in a healthy splashing of gravy … mmm.
But back to the point Hasselbaink plays attractive attacking football … something that we all would love to see from the stands and already has promotion experience in the lower leagues.
Don’t forget the man is a two time Premier League Golden Boot Winner … We can all see the potential Omar Bogle has and the experience Hasselbaink can pass on really could turn Omar into a real talent and a the same time get Grigg back on fire.
I’m sure he will still have connections at Chelsea so loan moves would be a great help next season.
He’s currently a free agent … the board will love that !
I’d love to see JFH take over as manager with Super Mario back at the club in a defensive coaching role.
Thoughts ?
Don’t agree with your comment about “attractive attacking football” 88. I seem to recall him being very defensive and counter attacking style. He used to beat us 1-0 all the time.
Not sure I’d want to watch that every week.12 May 2017 at 2:10 am #158937Depends if you think that Caldwell was totally responsible for the summer recruitment, or if someone else (who maybe has since left the club) was…
Caldwell is totally responsible he started this car crash of a season and butchered the squad that gave him a league title.
Damn right. Piss poor manager who got very lucky with us….that’s all.
Ask Chesterfield fans what they think…
Bloody hell he must have had a shed load of luck!
He had a Grigg who was scoring for fun, and the overall quality of league one last season was very poor. And people forget we were crap until christmas
12 May 2017 at 2:24 am #158939I honestly don’t get your reasoning, how does that make Caldwell very lucky?
Fuck the EFL
12 May 2017 at 2:41 am #158940I honestly don’t get your reasoning, how does that make Caldwell very lucky?Just a crap manager. First manager in history to relegate TWO clubs in a season.
Tactics and playing style was dire. It was boring. He got lucky last season that we played a lot of mediocre sides.
Biggest mistake he made was letting Chris Mccann walk away, his box to box midfielder from last season. That was dire. And then this season, he unsettled the teams balance by shifting Perkins out of his slot…where he had won player of the year last season, in that defensive midfield role. A terrible mistake unsettling a winning side.

Totally agree with 99% of that post, but ‘lucky’ no way, you can only beat the team thats in front of you, Caldwell more or less built the squad that won the League 1 title.
Fuck the EFL
12 May 2017 at 3:11 am #158942Bloody rubbish Caldwell. Took over a squad full of overpaid shite, cut budget by 50%, team took time to gel given players brought in but played some really good football towards end of season and smashed the league. Awful!

Awful!Tell that to Chesterfield fans. Don’t be blinkered….we were crap until Christmas and that was in a very poor quality league one. If we get him back, I think it’s an absolute joke. You don’t fire a manager in October….then get him back the following summer. Whats the point in that?
No chance.
12 May 2017 at 3:02 pm #158945That shortlist is a joke. And Karl Robinson has gone to Charlton.
Sorry Prat69, how about this as a shortlist
Nigel Pearson – available
Jose Mourinho
Antonio Conte
Luis Enrique – available
Roberto Mancini
Pep GuardiolaCant afford any and none would come but why should that bother us
Why can’t we afford Nigel Pearson? The others in your list are just a pathetic attempt to win your point. But you don’t. May as well have added Zidane and Simeone.
But how do we know Pearson wouldn’t fancy it? I bet people said the same about Chris Hughton, and he actually applied for the job when we gave it to Mackay. Feckin idiots.
If not that Nigel, then Nigel Adkins. Available. Keith Hill went to Barnsley and it didn’t work.
I know, John Coleman at Accrington. Give him a stab at it….lol
Nobody’s saying we can’t afford Pearson. But I don’t think Pearson would be interested as he’d have no money to spend – which is why he left Hull.Plus he’s fallen out with the Derby owner, and two different Leicester owners. Doubt Sharpe will have him at the top of his wish list.

Agree, Pearson is a non starter

Well he should be, Itzhak Stern. Tell them, he SHOULD be!

Can you not see the subtle differences in those two scenarios??, Latics were a club that still had quite a bit of financial clout and some decent players who had played at a higher level when they plummeted into league one. Caldwell had the luxury of building a decent squad to get out of that division and fair play to him he did, you can’t fault him for what he did, so why diss him?.
That’s a bit different to the Chesterfield squad he inherited, if we were honest even the most genned up football fans on here wouldn’t be able to name one of their players without Googling. You can’t polish a turd no matter how good a manager you are, another example being Alan Stubbs who was given the poison chalice at Rotherham. Its far from guaranteed yet, but dare I say it, potentially Big Sam could fall into that category if results go against Palace in the last 2 games, now he was deemed good enough to be England’s manager.
Relegated two clubs? Not sure you can fully put the blame on GC for our relegation even though the situations with Morsy and Colclough was a bit of a mystery.
Don’t get me wrong I wouldn’t be doing hand stands if Caldwell was re-appointed but there is no reason whatsoever to show so much vitriol to the man.
From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!13 May 2017 at 12:08 am #158958IMO we would have stayed up if we’d persisted with Caldwell.

Just posting a list as ridiculous as yours
13 May 2017 at 1:34 am #158962It will more than likely be Alan Stubbs. Was in a hotel in Alderley edge with Sharpe last week for dinner. Either that or they are mates?
