Bryan Griffiths was always pretty deadly from 12 yards for us too
I think he only missed one31 March 2014 at 12:41 pm #129172Anything that hits the back of the net is a good goal but the City pen was a poor penalty for me , you hit it hard and right in any of the four corners and if the keeper saves it hats of to him , that’s my preference .
The duke used to roll them in can’t remember any misses, to be fair holt Watson and Gomez have all succeeded until the last two, think Ali has saved more than that too.
Sir Andrew of lidl never missed many with his little run up & shimmy !
Maybe he faced poorer keepers?
Maybe they took better pens ?
31 March 2014 at 1:41 pm #129173Alex cribley had a pretty decent record too from the spot, especially during the ’87 – ’88 season i think it was. I think he finished 3rd overall out of all penalty takers from all 4 divisions that season.
31 March 2014 at 2:02 pm #129175Got to say, that like many of us, I can’t claim to be an immediate fan of Jordi Gomez. However, I think his application is far better under Uwe than it ever was under Roberto ( maybe too much of a “friend” thing going on there ); hence I would like to see him stay.Or maybe it’s because under Martinez he was playing in the Premier League and under Rosler he’s playing in the Championship?
31 March 2014 at 3:10 pm #129176Bit harsh on Jordi. Was a top save from Bogdan.
As others have said I think it would have been daylight robbery had we won that one. Happy with a point.
Automatic is still mathematically possible with our games in hand and still to play Burnley but I can’t see them dropping 7 points and us not dropping any. I’d be happy with top 4 and a home second leg.

Don’t let that get in the way of the chance to have a pop at Martinez though.
31 March 2014 at 4:45 pm #129179I thought he would struggle under Rosler when you consider the style of football and application he says he wants from his players but Rosler obviously see’s something he likes as he gets plenty of playing time.
You can see a difference in terms of him trying to close down as well.
If he is any good at that is open to debate but I think overall if he went in the summer it would be a massive loss for us.
31 March 2014 at 5:15 pm #129180Don’t think he should be first choice pen taker from now. His run up is too slow and predictable, I’m not confident when he steps up.
Bet you didn’t think this at the etihad rid you?
I did actually Lowey… And was mighty relieved when it went in.
Taking a penalty is not as easy as some think, which is why i prefer them to be hit with a bit of force. That was not a good pen by Jordi and it was an easy save for Bogdan. I’m not saying Jordi is rubbish (like the title suggests) just that we should try another.31 March 2014 at 8:32 pm #129182Bogdan had to dive the right way to save it.
Did he just guess, or did he see something in Gomez’ run up?
I don’t believe that penalty takers often actually send keepers the wrong way.
1 April 2014 at 12:36 am #129187Wise words from young Powell:
“It was unfortunate with Jordi’s penalty because it was one of the best you’ll see; it was right in the corner.
“The keeper’s just gambled the right way, don’t get me wrong it’s a good save, but nine times out of ten those penalties go in.”
2 April 2014 at 11:59 am #129261Cracking game last night in the box to box midfield role.
2 April 2014 at 1:24 pm #129264….he gets caught on the ball mostly because he’s holding it, waiting for one of the statues to come to life !totally agree with you on that one as i was going to post a similar comment myself. & its a great shame the supporters can’t see that. Last night i thought he was excellent caused mainly by the “statues” singing from the same hymn sheet. Its when they are not singing from same said sheet that makes gomez appear useless, which in turn, makes the fans get on his back more than any other player in the team.
2 April 2014 at 5:25 pm #129281He’s F*in usless can’t head the ball,to slow ,can’t tackle and leaves midfield wide open, SORRY that was previous years gone by (I don’t blame him for that either) great standing ovation for him last night very much deserved stay with us Jordi its to hot for you back in Costa del crime .
13 April 2014 at 10:22 pm #129858Told you Jordi wouldn’t miss on the biggest stage…
Shame he didn’t get to take his penalty in the shoot out.
14 April 2014 at 1:29 am #129871Jordi looked a lot more determined when taking this pen. His run up had no stutter and he struck it a lot harder :) great pen!
