28 December 2016 at 6:31 pm #153537Also if you look at the highlights Rotherham scored three right flukey goals. Another day none of them would have gone in. We also had Ronald and Diesel missing in midfield.
Watch out Derby and Huddersfield.I agree donny. I watched the highlights yesterday & couldn’t believe the flukeiness of their goals. As you say on another day, those wouldn’t have gone in & we might have been celebrating a 0 – 2 win – cue the 442 brigade claiming “i told you so!”
At the moment our luck seems to be deserting us. But wasn’t it jewell who stated that luck evens itself out eventually.
28 December 2016 at 6:45 pm #153538There is an hell of a lot that goes on in football clubs that we don’t know or hear about. Not if you read social media (including here), Donny.
It seems everyone knows someone who is happy to tell every secret in the club :P :P :P28 December 2016 at 8:00 pm #153541This makes interesting reading, I personally think the turnover of players for a club like Wigan is bordering on the verge of insanity.
Bare in mind Caldwell was here from the 7th April 2015 – 23rd October 2016http://www.wiganlatics.co.uk/news/article/2016-17/list-wigan-athletic-transfer-history-3283785.aspx
29 December 2016 at 10:01 pm #153562I am not one for changing managers – I never wanted Caldwell to be sacked I firmly believe he was starting to turn it around and we would have been ok.I also believe the club has made a big mistake with Joyce. I don’t like him putting the cones out before the game, him wearing shorts, seemingly side-lining all the coaching staff, making Barrow sit in the dug out when he used to do an effective job in the media gantry sending down messages to the bench. I don’t like him referring to one of our players as “Powelly”. I don’t like the fact that he comes across as an idiot!
I guess I don’t seem to like his amateur approach. Most of all I don’t like the negative almost defeatist attitude to games.
A mistake has been made in this appointment and while it will look bad on the club I believe the mistake needs to be rectified ASAP. Even if that means giving the job to Barrow until the end of the season.
Being honest I’d never heard of Joyce prior to us being linked with him. When i first heard him speak on radio he didn’t inspire me, and i did wonder what we had gotten.
But watching some of the games i’m not so sure it’s all down to him. Some of the players don’t seem to be that bothered to me, and that is worrying. We’ve got him now and i for one think the club need to stick with Joyce & back him. If that means getting rid of some of the players that don’t like the change then so be it.
30 December 2016 at 1:37 am #153569I do not believe enough has been said about the role of Sharp and the Chief Exec who along with Caldwell created the criteria for players they wanted to bring in. Caldwell was sacked to hide the fact that two others were equally to blame, in my view.
That said the complaint that Joyce wears shorts and puts the cones out and takes the training suggests to me that he has no confidence in the trainers and Barrow. Do not forget that he wanted two trainers but Sharp would not agree! Why?
The team are playing far better under Joyce than under Caldwell and I do agree with the others who point their fingers at the players.
The goalkeeper they got on loan was a disaster. He obviously had no confidence in the defence, as I haven’t. Warnock is not the same player this season. His passing and awareness has just vanished?
Griggs has a problem and probably wants away. Yanic is the bright spot andPerkins is trying very hard but he is a Division One/Two player really.
Wigan had the opportunity when promoted to go for a manager with great experience but they cost money and it is that fact which governed the recruitment of players.
Let us all get behind Joyce shorts and all and give him and the team the support they need, you never know we may repeat the miracle of last season!
Happy New Year to you all.
30 December 2016 at 2:15 am #153571Welcome to the board Toldem and a happy new year to you too.
I agree we have to support Joyce and not sack him but I think the panic button will be hit if we struggling at the end of Feb. The club can’t afford to go down again.

Happy New Year to you too.30 December 2016 at 2:57 am #153576I have to assume that the registration issues have finally been resolved.
Lets hope we have a few more new posters in the New Year now the option is back to register.
Welcome Tolhem
FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that
30 December 2016 at 10:56 am #153577The club is stagnating and bad manager after bad manager is exasperating the problem. A total clearout was needed after Bobby left and new direction and ideas. Losing Mr Whelan also a hindrance. The managers and coaching staff are not up to the job and blaming the players is only deflecting the truth. Grigg has not become a bad player overnight and lads like Sam Cosgrove, Flores and Chow have all gone backwards due to bad coaching. Players who are not good enough now we’re not good enough when they signed and that’s bad management. We are a club who has to work within a budget so it is hard but last season showed that we still knew how to do it. So to dismantle what we assembled so quickly was suicide and will result in yet another avoidable relegation. Good coaches and managers improve players whereas here they falter. We can sack ten managers but until the board finally see that wholesale changes off the field are needed we will remain stagnant.
30 December 2016 at 1:27 pm #153578In hindsight now, without any comings or goings from the end of last season we are probably no further up the league or with any more points than if we had stuck with what we had.
The momentum of sticking with a winning squad may have taken us much further up the league.
However we can say ‘What if’ forever but now we need some positive messages coming from the clubs owner, chairboy, chief executive, manager, coaches and from the players before the lot of them drive our club back to league one.30 December 2016 at 2:29 pm #153579See Burton won at Rotherham, possibly due to Clough not talking in the press about making do with the players he’s got. i.e Calling them all sh!te!
30 December 2016 at 2:59 pm #153580Joyce will need a few transfer windows, unfortunately for him his initial window will have to work the oracle straight away! Five points from safety at the halfway point is not a good situation to be in!
30 December 2016 at 3:36 pm #153582The question on many folks lips in relation to Joycey is “Is he a mallet yedded, noggin yedded Tup yet”

Totally agree with the comment about Sharp. We have a very young & inexperienced / naive chairman who likes the limelight. I hope he is a quick learner!
31 December 2016 at 1:30 am #153592Everybody was up his backside last season.
