Gordon Brown And The Deliberately Placed Auto-Que

It’s one of those modern words that has several spellings. It must be like no-nowt, or even know-nowt !

    I did inadvertently use “no-nowt”, didn’t I? Shocking!! :woohoo:

In the circumstances, I’ll let you off auto-que ;)

Auto-que is an elementary mistake, possibly following the all-too-common mis-spelling barbeque for barbecue.

But it isn’t the only mistake.

“So it begs the rhetorical question…”

First, a rhetorical question does not require an answer.

Second, ‘begging the question’ has a very specific meaning. It does not mean ‘raising the question’, as is often assumed. It means ‘assuming the initial point’, i.e. basing a conclusion on an assumption that has not been proved.

However, life is far too short to correct all the messages posted here. Posters usually manage to make their point, but a little more care would be welcome.

Otherwise you might get a Glasgow Kiss, if you are such a smart arse ;) ;) ;)

Auto-que is the Spanish term for a teleprompter, whilst Autocue is a British brand name for the same device.
