Come on council/police etc. Shut this monstrosity of a street down. Pointless, useless, crime ridden, no go area, awful job lot beer, steroid tossers on cocaine, over zealous door staff who are more than likely involved in the underworld anyway.
The policing bill for a weekend must be staggering. Not to mention the hospital/NHS bill for all the people who pass through A&E….!
If it’s not possibly to get rid of all the bars/clubs on that eye sore of a street, then at least have a curfew at night. Some are open till 6am, what a joke! the people who own these bars should be held accountable for this blokes death, that tony callaghan fella should be in the dock for selling cheap ale and encouraging binge drinking on a ridiculous scale. Also the big national chains that own bars on king street should face prosecution too.
They sell ale to people even if they can’t stand up FFS. get them in the dock and shut the place down.
Cheap alcohol sold in supermarkets and offies as well as bars open until 6am is the problem if you ask me.The teenagers stay at home throwing it down with their mates before turning out at 11.30pm and then hitting King st and staying out till 6am.
They are already p/ssed up when they hit the area and add the growing drugs problem and under age elements that frequent the bars and is it any wonder it is carnage most weekends?
Ban the sale of cheap supermarket alcohol and change the licensing laws back to the old ones and the place would be closed at 2.30am.
Restrict the licences and gradually the late bars would reduce and people would turn out earlier and obviously drink less due to the extra expense.
A relative of mine was caught up in a major fracas on King st a few years back and it was only for the grace of god that nobody was killed that night. My relative was set upon by several out of towners and it was only because he is a tough lad that he came out of it relatively unscathed.
The thing is this goes on in EVERY town centre across the country and the problem could be solved by the government.
How many more casualties will there be before the authorities sort it out?
Agree with a lot of what you are saying, but kicking everybody out onto one street at 2am caused so many more problems than we have today. It’s also what started the culture o
f binge drinking
The 2am shut down myth is that there was loads of trouble as all the clubs emptied.
Not true-back in my day (80s) you had Pemps,Maximes,Pier,Turnkey,Chaplins,Riverside,Movies,Kings,Blutos and that was about it.Blutos was about the worst and that closed its doors in late 1985-was in on its last night and there was a fight then involving a girl and her boyfriend(the girl battred the lad btw :woohoo: ).
They were all fairly scattered about the town and each club had a taxi rank outside.
There was bits of trouble yes but it was spasmosdic and usually only involved fists with nobody getting there heads stamped on unlike today(what is with that btw -how cowardly!).It mostly happened at the 11pm taxi ranks but the police controlled this easily so you didnt see major disturbances.
The out of town trade that blights the town today didnt happen and when it did the night clubs operated a coach party policy with strict rules of entrance-couples only ,no drunkeness etc. They also wanted everybody inside by 10pm so it must have been much easier to control.
They also operated a strict dress code and troublemakers were soon booted out if they caused trouble.People hit the town centre at 7.30 onwards and most people had gone home by 11pm.
Now you have scores of bars and it must be a nightmare to control and it must be costing the NHS/Police a fortune.
I think its time to go back to stricter licensing laws and controls on off licence purchases
Enough is enough!

I think we have someone here who knows absolutely nothing about what’s going on in this thread. It must be quite nice to be blissfully ignorant of what is going on in the real world.
