Come on council/police etc. Shut this monstrosity of a street down. Pointless, useless, crime ridden, no go area, awful job lot beer, steroid tossers on cocaine, over zealous door staff who are more than likely involved in the underworld anyway.

The policing bill for a weekend must be staggering. Not to mention the hospital/NHS bill for all the people who pass through A&E….!

If it’s not possibly to get rid of all the bars/clubs on that eye sore of a street, then at least have a curfew at night. Some are open till 6am, what a joke! the people who own these bars should be held accountable for this blokes death, that tony callaghan fella should be in the dock for selling cheap ale and encouraging binge drinking on a ridiculous scale. Also the big national chains that own bars on king street should face prosecution too.

They sell ale to people even if they can’t stand up FFS. get them in the dock and shut the place down.

Not been out round Wigan/King Street properly for about 8 years for the reasons you’ve mentioned. Possibly the last time was the day we got promoted, and I went home at about 8.30 that night because the whoppers were starting to turn out who were jumping on the bandwagon….

The last time I went out round Wigan of a night it was in a group of four with her indoors and my mate and he’s missus. We were queuing at the cashpoint at front of main post office and the two lads in front of us, for some unknown reason, suddenly started to kick the absolute s*** out of the cashpoint, with full martial arts kicks and punches. It was absolutely pathetic. Why on earth would you do that? Why?

Too much shite goes on, especially of a weekend. It’s going back a long time now, but my cousin was there when Franny Gallear got stabbed to death. Why does Wigan have this kind of seedy atmosphere and image? Is it too many sted heads?

I will say one thing though, despite all you say, I predict King Street venues will still be thriving, long after the traditional locals have all shut. Why? Because they will be the only place left you can get a drink. Ok, it’ll be £5 a pint….but there are too many idiots who will go out and pay it.

I suppose we should be thankful. At least we aren’t Blackpool…..

now that really IS a real shithole.

Was in King Street on Saturday for the first time in months and i was surprised at the bar we used to go to quite a bit was filled with cretins of a certain age. You can see them a country mile off, I won’t be out again for a while now around town. I would much prefer Manchester. Was quite a difference, Sitting outside the John Bull until about 10pm in a nice somber atmosphere with good music in the background to venturing into King Street with all the idiots of the night. Why is it the sted heads and fancy Dan’s with their ‘only way is Essex’ haircuts act like tools of the highest order after a few ales. They infiltrate the pubs now too. I am extremely bored with this town.

Agree, total shithole, full of idiots, should cage the dickheads in, and you don’t get in or out without passing a copper at the gate, act like monkeys, get treated like monkeys, totally agree, the owners of these chains should stump up the police costs, hospital costs, and take some responsibility for the generation of absolute dickheads they are producing.

I go back to the days of the Turnkey and Chaplins,….plenty dickheads about in them days as well,….Infact the `King of Clubs was the biggest shithole in Wigan by miles,I wouldnt ave been seen dead in that craphole,

infact I remember there being two murders in King Street in the 80s.

So take off them rose coloured specs, King Street has always been a magnet for pissed/drugged up wankers, its nothing new.

            But I agree,….close it down `Pronto`!

I went out with my mate around Ormskirk a couple of weeks ago. Decent mix of pubs and bars, but spread out, unlike King Street.

It was pretty good, but we did feel very old due to the large number of students from Edge Hill University who were out on the town.

First time I’ve ever been turned away by a doorman for being TOO OLD! Honestly. Wasn’t a bad night though. Out from 7.30 til 2.30, so must’ve been good. Didn’t see any trouble, as atmosphere was pretty chilled out. Felt very old though.

I always prefer Bolton for a night out never seen any bother and only £1,50 on the train and £20 taxi back home obviously pays if four of you go :P

To be fair, due to the apparent age of most of the bars clientele, my mate and I would possibly have come across as being a bit like Savile and Glitter on a night out!

I go out to King Street probably a couple of times a year. Not sure how good I am to comment on it, because I barely have any memories of getting there, let alone leaving at stupid o’clock in the morning. I agree, the vast majority of it is lowest common denominator garbage. However, there are enough establishments in Wigan whereby you are almost guarenteed to find somewhere with your style of music / type of people in there if you look around. Sure, there is a fair amount of violence and shite that goes on there, just like any town centre at the weekend. It is a hell of a lot safer though than it was 10 years ago in my opinion. As for shutting it down, don’t be daft. Not sure what the logic would be in having a derelict street in the town centre. It will be open for as long as there are enough people wanting to go there. Whether you think these people are idiot or not, it’s another point entirely. As for saving money from policing and NHS, close down King Street and, quite simply, people will just go drink somewhere else. Then there is the amount of people that the events industry employs. We’re talking hundreds of people on that street alone.

Strange, i would have expected for the author of a post such as this to have been at least 18
