Fair reply, but we need the ability to mix it up now and then and with just Di Santo up front the ball doesn’t stick.2nd half Sat was one way ,no outlet yet we continued to pass it into trouble.
4 February 2013 at 2:56 pm #102586I don’t know if you noticed but there was fair bit of hoofing going on never mind passing out of trouble
4 February 2013 at 2:59 pm #102587Negligence when over this important period we were left with one experienced forward .They are you pressure release valves when under the hammer.
4 February 2013 at 3:08 pm #102588So which was it the passing game that failed due to the visitors energy when pressing us or the long ball game that you are missing and undoubtabley prefer
4 February 2013 at 3:12 pm #102590Isn’t it clear to you that 1 up front wasn’t working second half but our squad imbalance of forwards left us with no options ?
4 February 2013 at 3:40 pm #102602Was it working first half then ?
4 February 2013 at 3:43 pm #102603Isn’t it clear to you that 1 up front wasn’t working second half but our squad imbalance of forwards left us with no options ?Isn’t it clear to you that we DID have a recognised forward on the bench but the manager chose not to bring him on until the 90th minute. This indicates – rightly or wrongly, and we can argue opinions until we are blue in the face and still get nowhere – that the manager was happy with the formation we had?
4 February 2013 at 3:46 pm #102605Southampton spent £33 million in the summer. They did just the same to Manchester United on Wednesday night. Southampton brought on Davis and Lallana in the second half and dominated the game. Ferguson was puzzled. He decided to bring on Ferdinand to deal with Lambert.
Up front, he had Rooney and van Persie but they rarely saw the ball. He had Kagawa, Carrick, Anderson and Welbeck in midfield but they couldn’t cope. He pushed Jones into centre midfield and brought on Nani to play on the wing. It made no difference. Southampton still threatened and were unlucky not to score.
United stand nine points clear at the top this morning. If they couldn’t cope, it’s no wonder Wigan were out-played.
One thing puzzles me. Why don’t Southampton start with Davis and Lallana?

Well said DB the last two games we have come back from a deficit something we have not done earlier in the season although I doubt that will be the case against Chelsea on Saturday
4 February 2013 at 4:24 pm #102610Isn’t it clear to you that 1 up front wasn’t working second half but our squad imbalance of forwards left us with no options ?Martinez played his familiar formation on Saturday. The subs were;
01 Blazquez
25 Golobart – defender
44 Campabadal – defender
06 Jones – midfield
14 Gomez – midfield/forward
11 Henriquez – forward
15 McManaman – midfield/forwardThat seems reasonably balanced to me. Do you mean the absence of Boyce, Ramis, Alcaraz, Lopez and Watson through injury? And the further limitations on Martinez caused by the absence of Crusat and Miyaichi, both injured, and Kone, away at the African Nations Cup?
In the second half, Wigan couldn’t get the ball. Another forward would have taken one more out of midfield. If you can’t get the ball, it doesn’t matter how many forwards you have.
I have to admit that the introduction of McManaman and Gomez did not strengthen midfield. Martinez could have brought on Henriquez earlier and Di Santo could have played deeper.

Absolutely spot on. Those who scream for another forward don’t think about who they’re going to replace and what effect that might have. Why not place with ten up front? We’d score loads of goals.
5 February 2013 at 6:57 pm #102697Apparently Kone is on his way back and may feature in the Chelsea game if he isn’t suffering any side affects from travelling.
FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that

I’d put some sauce on it first.
