Just heard Martinez has signed him. Don’t think we have any out and out strikers now. It will be a struggle next season, when Whelan said two seasons to return, I am now beginning to see why.

So everything Mr C said yesterday about kone was bullshit then!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wonder if Dave Whelan will have a pop at all the deadwood martinez signed that leaves us where we are now, before jumping ship and now coming back to strip us bare.

Still he loves WAFC so he will be forgiven by the same ones who couldn’t see through the bullshit of the last four years.
Here LMB… Have a snickers.

You turn into a right Diva when you’re hungry.

    Better?
Nobody else seems to be hungry, I can’t get a bite out of anyone these days, that includes the two worst you and the five year old
I very, very nearly bit. I must be getting as old as you, LMB. ;)

Anyway, who are the three who are signing over the weekend, any scoops from your media friends?

All gone quiet, they are away on holiday until next week, I am beginning to doubt the one I told you about, it seems to have dragged on, and with other signings being made it is starting to look iffy.

As for the stuff from the closer source, his dad tells us he won’t even look him in the eye at the moment in case he gives something away, once bitten it seems.

I am afraid I am scratching around message boards like everyone else at the moment.

Surprised Everton are prepared to pay 6.5 million for a 30 year old journeyman but not bad value for us. Thought Martinez would build for future more. Alcaraz at 31 is also a strange one but good luck to em both.

Think the story about the Norwegian lad is a definite go-er and I believe Mr Coyle et al will be very busy over the weekend, too. Regrettably, I have no inkling whatsoever about names :( My sources are much less blabby than yours ;)

A 6.5 journeyman maybe but one who scored goals in the league at a ratio of 1 in 3 means that’s a snip of a price and the club HAS to charge that price and no other!!!
Especially when you have Andy Carroll with the same hit rate last season costing nearly three times as much!

Still nothing about him signing for Everton, but on a North West Counties League page on Facebook this has just been posted:

Wigan Athletic’s Ivory Coast international Arouna Kone has this week set up an office at Ashton Town, as a base for his Arouna Kone Foundation.

The foundation, which was set up in 2007, aims to build a hospital and a doctor’s surgery in his home district of Abobo, back in the Ivory Coast.

The FA Cup winner was a guest at the club during the end of season presentation evening, and this deal will see Arouna and his team down at the club on a regular basis.

Now I know that being at Everton isn’t too far away, but maybe, just maybe, news of his departure is premature.

Whilst Kone is decent it must be remembered that other than the team he is about to join he scored against Southampton. Newcastle. Norwich. Reading. West Brom. Villa. Oh and Huddersfield. Only one team on that list (West Brom) is in the top 10. Against decent defenders he aint exactly prolific!

And how many chances did we create for him against “Southampton. Newcastle. Norwich. Reading. West Brom. Villa. Oh and Huddersfield.” Compared to the other top 10 teams??

If were to believe todays papers and Newcastle have come in with a last minute better offer (5.5 million) outbidding Everton by £500,000 who has the last say on were he goes ?.
If he still maintains that he wants to go to Everton do they have to match Newcastles bid or does Whelan just say bye bye to £500,000 and let him have his way ?

It doesn’t matter if somebody came in and bid £50m. We have to agree to any bid that matches the buyout clause. Once they bid the right amount the player is free to talk to them.

If Newcastle have offered a bigger transfer fee they may be offering a bigger wage packet too.

Why would they offer a bigger transfer fee if all they need to do is match the get out clause? If the getout clause is £5m then why would they offer, for example, £6m. They could use that extra £1m to offer a higher wage, but we wouldn’t get anything extra.

                  #117279

We don’t actually know what the get out clause is or that the fees rumoured to be offered are accurate.

Whelan and Coyle might have been willing to accept slightly less on the basis that the business is conducted sharply and the amount paid in full so we can use the funds for our own recruitment drive.

                  #117280

LMB has been informed by one of his contacts that the clause is 6.5M Euros, which equates to approx £5.5M. The dropped £0.5M is probably just lazy journalism as I very much doubt Newcastle bidding under that and having it accepted.

In fact, who’s to say Newcastle have bid at all and it isn’t just a story leaked for the purpose of trying to get Everton to hurry things along and pay the money up front.
