I despair at the way that this forum has degenerated.The proletariat, as usual, are successfully shouting down the voice of reason. They are successful only because their voices are loudest and most threatening, not because they have truth on their side.
Dave Whelan saved this club from extinction and took us on a memorable joy ride all the way to the Premier League. What he brought about was nigh on impossible, but it happened. He took a club with no spectators, no money and no prospects all the way from the verge of extinction to the promised land and even beyond. It was easy to support Wigan Athletic during this period because, apart from a couple of blips, everything came up roses.
We are now in a period where nothing seems to be going right and there is a real chance that we may end up being relegated from a place where we have no right being if the truth be known. With the resources at our disposal we are competing way above our natural level. This is obviously a new experience for some of our supporters who are reacting in the most pathetic way.
IF Dave Whelan has made a mistake by appointing Roberto Martinez as manager then so what. He has surely earned the right to make a mistake after getting so much right for so long.
IF Roberto Martinez has not got what it takes to be a top-flight manager and we are relegated to the Championship, then so what. He is a decent, honest man who is Wigan Athletic through and through and actually wants to be here. If he fails it will not be because he has bled the club dry and couldn’t care less, he will have failed honourably doing the best he could. If the worst happens and relegation becomes a reality then he will feel the pain just like we will.
It is pointless asking the hysterical ones amongst us to show a little class and support the club during these difficult times. I am just thankful that our future didn’t depend on them when things really were tough and we were going out of business. There were fewer supporters then but they were made of sterner stuff (I don’t include myself in this) and didn’t start bleating every time there was a setback. They rolled up their sleeves and did everything they could to help “their Club” survive.
I am tempted to say “shut the F**k up” to them but I know they won’t so I will be the one to shut up. I have better things to do than trade insults on here.
Totally agree, I wonder how these people can call themselves SUPPORTERS…. surely there is a clue in the term.
Supporters don’t turn up at games and abuse the very staff that they proclaim to support.
Wasn’t Wenger, Fergusen (and even Bobby at Swansea) getting greif from their respective supporters because of bad/indifferent starts to their carrers at Manchester and arsenal, bith of these are veterans now.
I am lucky (or not dependant on how you look at it) that I went through the really bad times at Latics, so this is nothing compared to those days, there are a lot of people out there that need a very big reality check….
I just wonder what these same people will be like when/if we stay up… and more to the point whether they will be there next season whatever the division….

How can you be loud on an Internet forum ?? Persistent maybe but not loud !! I suggest you define the word forum to yourself before logging in because everything is not going to be to your liking, that is what forums are all about….Differing views. Why are we so out of order ? Why are you deluded ? Why are we negative ? Why are you so easily pleased ? All these differing views !! No need to condescend certain people because they are passionate yet dissatisfied. Just a straight riposte will do ! I sometimes think you should be on another certain forum old chap because you are truly wasted on here !!

Agree with all that. I am totally amazed that anyone can criticise DW. Without him the little club that I watched from 1965 would be in the old 4th division at best and this dream would never have happened. I do think he made a mistake appointing RM – but it was a gamble worth taking, was admired across football and could still come off.

They aren’t real ‘Supporters’ if they abuse, boo and insult our team. As that is not giving the club ‘Support’!!!

That says it all, that’s the difference. I guess it hurts some people more than others if we’re relegated or not.
i have never booed my team james but i grumble about p.ss poor performances like the one i witnessed last saturday. its not just bob.s fault as it seems to me some of are so called players are just happy going through the motions and picking up there big fat pay cheques at the end of the month.as for owd git saying bob martinez is a nice chap and i do not care if we do not win another game :roll: . well i am sorry but from were i am that is just a stupid thing to say.

Why wouldn’t you say you don’t care if we win another game owd_git? I care if we win, but I dont want Martinez to get sacked no matter what happens. Also BONONTMOON… Have to agree with what you are saying about the players, looking like they dont care. I made a post a while bak saying we have lost our passion and our fight, and that we look like we dont care, and shock horror, I got immedietely slated by the posters on here (even though what i said was true) and they were pointing out a certain time when we showed passion. Do think Martinez is the man though.

I do call myself a proper supporter Jay, I’ve watched us thru all 4 divisions, and can still remember how numb I felt when Philpotts took us down in our only relegation. Ten times worse than the Gillingham defeat at Wembley. How we thought we would bounce back, how the crowds dropped, then the Swain era.
Don’t kid yourself that people who don’t have any confidence in Martinez are JCL’s who will crawl back into the woodwork if we go down. I didn’t last time and I won’t if we go down again. It’s the rough with the smooth, but if we can prolong the smooth, lets do it. A lot of people draw comparisons between Jewell and Martinez, but if memory serves me right, didn’t Colin Lee get brought in to help Jewell during his rough patch? I don’t want to sound “Hysterical” as owd git calls it, but let’s not behave like lemmings either.
