Kick a club when its down eh?.
Given our average home attendances the away following is superb but lets not credit anything coz we have had a bad season. Can you not just afford a little praise for once especially to the lads who have travelled tirelessly to follow the club all through an horrendous time. 1200 at the Toon is a terrific effort. I cant get to away games as I’ve work commitments but have done nearly every ground over the years watching the Latics. Hats off to everyone who is going lets hope you get your just rewards with 3 points.

I think the 7 and 4 comment was referring to Ipswich
30 March 2017 at 4:44 pm #157355Newcastle fans support their team through thick and thin .
It hurts the fans more than the greedy players, owners and know they’ve no right to believe they should be in the premier league because they’re a ‘big club’.
Respect given. No they dont. They are as fickle as any other fans. I remember several times in the early eighties and again in the early nineties Newcastle having crowds in the low teens of thousands with average crowds of 16 to 17 thousand.

A couple of times, compared to well above-average crowds the rest of the time.

One thing you can’t say about them Geordies is that they don’t support their club. They’ve always had decent support, especially away.
I agree though, they are fickle in the sense that they never seem to be happy. They even moaned when they had Bobby Robson in charge. Geordies, Spurs & Arsenal are the worst English supporters for moaning IMO..

30 March 2017 at 6:43 pm #157360How many would follow the Toon if they had Utd,Liverpool,City and Everton on the flamin doorstep. This is the point everyone misses when comparing our crowds. Enough people in the past have took the piss out of us for small crowds they don’t need any help from our own fans as well.YAMS.

I’m glad to see someone actually read and understood the posts before jumping on the outrage bus.

It’s OK to be a small outrage bus, isn’t it?

The 10,000 or so that used to come to the DW in 2013 haven’t gone to those clubs, as their average crowds are pretty much the same as they were 4 years ago. They’ve just stopped watching live football and found something else to do on a Saturday afternoon.
Say what you like about Newcastle fans being deluded or mugs, but they’ve stuck with their team after both their recent relegations & sell out almost all away games, even though they are repeatedly fleeced by ticket prices.

The other week when we entertained Bristol City, Nob End were hosting Reading and the respective attendances were identical! Now our fixture was between 2 sides not doing very well and both in the bottom 3 with a distinct threat of relegation, whilst their game was 2 sides very much in with a chance of the play offs ( Promotion!) and so how can they possibly take the piss out of us?

Newcastle have no other team to class as local but for Sunderland how is it not a realistic comparison. Latics has 4 gigantic clubs all with richer history and success than Newcastle will ever see. They are one of those clubs like Leeds who have fans everywhere for no logical reason other than a fan base. We would have to be in the greed league for a generation winning titles and cups to take support from the very noisy 4 neighbours whereas the Toon have no competition in a very large densely populated area.
