What about Northwich away in the cup? 3-0 up after 70 odd mins when the fog came in off the river Dane and it was abandoned.Result didnt stand and when the game was eventually replayed we went 2-0 up only to concede 2 late on before finally winning it at Springy 1-0 in the replay.
Hello Tez H , you are quite correct , we played them at home on March 7th 1987 in a Division Three fixture . It was abandoned on 61 minutes at 1-1 . When it was replayed in April , we lost 0 – 2 :(
Yes, I remember that game very well. How it kicked off, is beyond me. When we say there was ‘snow’ on the pitch, we really do mean it was covered….not like the sprinklings we get nowadays. Proper blizzard conditions.
The ball used was an orange Adidas Tango, I think, and the referee was George Courtney of Spennymoor, who was the top ref at the time.
I always find the ‘ I won’t be bothering’ comments amazing. It’s supposed to be your team. What else will you be doing ffs!
You bother every other week and tomorrow it’s only a ten spot to get in and see the new lads.
Me and little un (2 & 1/2) for his 2nd ever game tomorrow.
Win or lose it’s the FA Cup 3rd round.
My sentiments exactly. Wouldn’t dream of misisng a home game, for whatever reason. I’d do every away game too, if I thought I could get away with it.
I run a prediction league and I have even backed Wigan today at 4/5. However, having seen on SSN that the two new lads and McManaman are probably playing I’m a bit nervous. We can’t keep losing to all these lower league teams, surely?

I suppose you could say that people should find the inclusion of Espinoza and Henriquez (sic?) an extra attraction to help people through the gates. If he makes too many changes though, it’ll be Bradford all over again….and the stick Martinez will get will be unbelievable……
….deservedly so? I think so, yes.
I would play this team:
Al Habsi, Boyce, Lopez, Ramis, Figueroa, McArthur, Jones, Stam, Espinoza, Di Santo, Henriquez.
Why does Golobart not get a game at this level ?always on the bench week in week out even when we were so short at the back and the Bradford game no start ?
Appley Bridge Latic has a good memory of the abandoned game ….. should never have kicked off ….. strange fact , the pitch markings where painted blue and had to be re-done at Half Time . Paul Jewell equalised for us on 18 minutes , the Cherries had scored earlier , playing into a blizzard ! Manager of Bournemouth was a certain Harry Redknapp , fast asleep in the dug out ! Attendance again was a superb 3,814 against the league leaders .
Stirring up great memories.
in this thread.
I shall be going simply because it is a nice
attraction away from the overated league
and the greed that goes with it.
Could well be a league game next season and
with a weakened Latics side Bournemouth
will begin favourites today.
Should be great.

From what I recall, when George Courtney signalled he was abandoning the game, it came to the relief of most folk in the ground. Not only was the pitch absolutely white, the snow was blowing in a heavy blizzard and the game was a farce. I think it only kicked off because of the distance Bournemouth had travelled, to see if the game could be played.
Same conditions would see the game off on the Wednesday, these days.
Filmoss from what i read you won’t be there or will leave around half time ;)
They’ve sold about 1700 with pay on the day surely we’ll have at least 5000 bothering to turn up to watch the new lads for a tenner?
Thought as much about the abandoned game. Cheers.
I hold my hand up re the crowd ( Not that it was that much better ! ) but I am so glad I stayed at home and didn’t waste a tenner plus petrol and sundries on what turned out to be a non starter by all accounts ! I hope you die hards will be making the trip to the South coast ! :)
