A month ago, I’d have fancied our chances at home to Palace. Now, I’m not so sure.
Palace – a modest collection of players – have pulled themselves together under Pulis. The relegation battle now involves the bottom half of the table.
Wigan’s progress under Rosler has faltered. He hasn’t established a regular team or a formation yet, and we are still crying out for a reliable goal scorer.
So both teams may use the game as a chance to experiment, but I’m hoping that, at the same time, they’ll both be playing to win.
19 January 2014 at 6:07 pm #126075Win-win for us.
If we win, we’ve beaten a Premier League team.
If we lose, we were knocked out by a Premier League team.
I suspect Palace are dreading it more than we are.

19 January 2014 at 11:07 pm #126085Well, a few of our recent displays have not been totally convincing. A defeat was to be expected in due course, but 3-0 at Doncaster was a surprise.
And there have been some very eccentric team selections too.
We have lost Holt and I’m not sure that Maynard is the reliable scorer that we need to knock our chances in. But the window is still open and we live in hope.
25 January 2014 at 9:02 pm #126346Great win today.
Ashamed to say looked out the window at the pissing rain at 2pm, looked at my daughter and she said ” Dad do we have to go?”
I thought about it said “No we don’t”.
First home cup match I’ve missed for ages !!
Sorry everyone !!
Everton next round?

From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!25 January 2014 at 10:44 pm #126350Great cup tie and some fantastic individual performances notably Ali and McLean who worked his but off down the left in probably his best performance since he came here.
Home draw please but no City,Arsenal or Liverpool !25 January 2014 at 11:13 pm #126351Espinoza was MotM for me
25 January 2014 at 11:23 pm #126352Yes he was one of the stars today -his work rate and break up play was excellent but I think james McLean edged it .
uwe seems to have improved McLeans distribution and he must have been a nightmare to deal with because you never knew what he was going to do however his attitude and work rate made him my man of the match.
not sure about Leona Lewis up front and just hoping some of that surplus transfer fund ( how is it spent FFS ????) is ready to be used on another striker.25 January 2014 at 11:33 pm #126354Callum looked sharp as well. Hopefully he’ll last 90 min soon.
Ali some top saves, looking good again.
Absolutely perishing that wind. Parked up about 1.30 and the rain was going horizontal across the car park. Car was shaking literally  Don’t notice the weather though when we win…
5th round? Several Championship teams still in, plus PNE (just). Quite fancy our chances at home against Cardiff/Sunderland. Hull would be amusing! City/Chelsea/Arsenal away…well at least we went out to a potential winner!
The road to Wembley takes many twists…we’ve got past Milton Keynes but in reality we’re around Stafford at the moment

Home draw please but no City,Arsenal or Liverpool !And he’s still shit!! ;) He’s got to do a lot more yet to win me over. Not the worst I’ve ever seen, but for all the possession/chances he has, he has to deliver more often and better, in my opinion. He did do OK today though, I’ll give you that.
26 January 2014 at 12:27 am #126357Mclean would be great if he would lift his head up
26 January 2014 at 12:35 am #126358A good all round performance, I thought.
They lined up something like this;
Al Habsi
Perch Boyce Barnett Beausejour
Watson
McManaman McArthur Espinoza McClean
MaynardI liked McManaman and McClean on opposite wings and thought that Wigan settled down first and deserved their lead at half time.
Palace came out with more determination in the second half but Wigan persevered to gain their win.
Ultimately, Wigan owed their win to Al Habsi who made at least four crucial saves. So I make him my man of the match.
Once again, there were some strange decisions from the referee. I couldn’t see the incident with Parr clearly. I thought he landed badly and hope he will be all right.
26 January 2014 at 1:24 am #126359I’ll let you into a little secret Argus, the DW has a roof on to keep you nice and dry. It’s the 15 walk from Albert Street that put me off JR. We would have been soaked by the time we got to the Ground.
My Mrs has been working this week so couldn’t get down for tickets. If we’d had tickets we would have made the effort.
Fingers crossed for another home draw !!
