And you could guarantee that 35,000 would flock in week in, week out? As Horc said- if 22,000 are willing to pay it, then with a winning streak that number would increase anyway. Paying £35 a time.
And you do know that food and beer outlets are franchises, don’t you?
And the profit on programme sales is minimal.
But hey ho. I must be thick.

You are far from thick Garswood, I just think fsome fans are starting to feel ripped off. With all the money going into football these days it is a shame it all seems to have to go on stupidly inflated player wages and in some cases the Chairmans back pocket.

We are lucky as season ticket holders at Wigan, but our match day prices could benefit from a good overall next season as I think we are missing out on casual fans, non season ticket holders who used to go more, and the number of away fans.

Actually,it would probably be nearer 40,000.

I don’t think our pricing policy is in issue. I am not sure we could lower them more.

The issue under debate though was whether Leeds were ripping us at Wigan off. The answer is “no” – they are ripping their own fans off, as they have published a price plan for their fans which to us looks eye-watering. Prices for visitors follow that plan.

But while at least 22,000 (current average) pay £35, the club will charge it. You have to remember too there is a fair bit of discontent about Cellini, so with maybe a change in approach (new owner?), and/oran upturn in performance on the pitch, Leeds fans will flock in willing to pay £35. Remember, these people think they are a big club, and so will pay “big club” prices.

And can we reciprocate high prices for them when Leeds visit? Simple answer is “no”.

I think we would be well in our right to charge more for away fans at the DW as they actually have better facilities than the home fans.
The Marquee is open solely for away fans and access can apparently be gained at half time.
Home fans however have no such facility and have to stand on a dusty cold concourse whilst away fans sit in comfort and warmth whilst munching their pies and supping their beer.

You don’t have to look at Leeds Utd in this debate, lets look at our own club. Young DS has almost given away the season tickets for this season for nowt, despite it being a better league with better clubs blah, blah, blah, than last year.
We have played the likes of Wolves, QPR and Birmingham at home, not Scunthorpe, Rochdale or Shrewsbury.
What impact has this had on season ticket sales / attendances? The argument that some people are putting forward here means we should be filling our sections of the DW every home game, we are not.
Less than a tenner per game and still only getting a home crowd around the 10,000 mark, similar to what we got in the last few months of last season once we looked like a promotion side.

If we do get on a winning run again like last season, watch how miraculously some fans start to fork out the dabs to follow latics on the road. Like I said, its easy following a winning team.
By the way does anyone know when the Leeds tickets go on sale?

Unfortunately we as a Club cannot do anything about. We, like all Clubs, publish prices at the beginning of the season and we have to stick to them.

The argument is that outside the Premier League, gate receipts are much bigger percentage of the clubs income. So prices have to be in line with operating costs.

Leeds, having been outside the Premier League for so long still have high costs and not many ways to get the cash in to cover them.

With all due respect thats a lot of cobblers….

Charge and get 800 punters (if they are lucky).

              OR

Charge £20 and get 3000+ punters.

Its not rocket science, these idiots that set prices are just plain thick.[/quote]

Not cobblers, fact. ALL football Clubs at the beginning of the season must publish their pricing policy for the season. The only variant to those prices can be for 4 ‘home offer’ games, where the Home Club can do a game for a tenner if they want but still charge away fans the price for that corresponding stand.

And it isn’t the Clubs that are thick, it is the fans at those Clubs paying those prices that are keeping them at that level. If they voted with their feet the Club would have to find other ways to generate the money (or lose wages).

The crowds will not miraculously roll in if we get on a big winning run. This time they have frozen the casual fan out all together for many reasons including the reasons given.
Is this price being set in stone a new thing or has it been in operation in other seasons?
In other seasons we have had many matches when prices have been reduced for eg.when playing at home in midweek, playing at home when eggs were at Wembley, three match offers etc etc.

The prices are set at the start of the season and can’t be changed unless there are special circumstances. There are however a few consessions to home fans, eg. cut price games and three for two etc, that can be instigated throughout the season at the clubs discretion. Not sure how many concessions they are allowed though.

34.2.11 Discounts or special promotions (in each case for one match only) made available to supporters of the Home Club must also be made available on a similar basis to visiting supporters provided always that each Club shall be permitted to designate four (4) Matches per Season as ‘local promotion’ Matches where this Regulation shall be deemed not to apply. Clubs shall notify The League of the Matches so designated as and when they are designated.

The clubs should be able to set the prices at whatever they like(within reason) and the FL should butt out.

£25 +£2 to watch a Latics game is never going to attract the casual fans.

Oi smart arse, what about the extra beer, programme, food, bovril sales ???

22,000 in the stadium or 35,000 ??…….Mmmm let me think.

You’d be £70,000 short, so you’d need to make £5 profit on every single one of the extra 13,000 fans.

That’s a lot of programme / Leeds United fridge magnet / car mini-kit sales.

Another club that couldn’t spent enough to get relegated from top league and are still reeling from it now. They still want to spend big but don’t have resourse to do it, owner is a crook and overpaid team isnt good enough.

Who suffers – yup, the fans
