As for tactics last night, one I spotted was,
Why was Moxon suddenly the designated free kick (into box) taker and corner taker over Murray ?.
Bare in mind he scored from a corner on his debut so you’d think he’d be a target to aim for.
This just shows you the crazy instructions given from the bench.
We are devoid of pace and the only guy who can stretch teams late on was given a full 9 minutes to save Lowe’s job Asamoah.
The lad is chomping at the bit and Lowe prefers pass pass pass. To be frank, I’ll be made up when he’s sacked because that last night, the 60 minutes at Doncaster coupled with the Cardiff then Bolton performances are some of the worse performaces I’ve seen since the Joyce and Toure era’s and they take some beating
28 January 2026 at 8:28 am #206762Fully agree, Cup Winners.
I never thought this guy would come in and be as bad or as worse as Kolo and Joyce.
But it’s happened.
And to think this guy was loitering in the stands for weeks, waiting for Maloney to be booted, with his friend pulling strings inside as well. There’s no doubt Lowe knew what he was coming into. Unless the owners promised him more backing and then didn’t deliver. Something has gone on behind the scenes, I’m sure of it. Lowe’s rant soon after the Bolton game where he said “fans have got to realise these aren’t the days of Cook, Richardson, or Martinez. We’re a million miles away from then”. I put that down to the backing he was being offered and that he was frustrated. He’s never been the same since that and its almost as if he has been waiting to get the chop recently. Thats how its felt and how he’s come across. Apart from Preston when the performance actually made a mockery of the awful performances before and since that night.
The inevitable HAS to happen now. If it doesn’t, its going to be bloody toxic on Saturday and shows the owners haven’t got a bloody clue.
28 January 2026 at 3:47 pm #206763I’m sure Danson moved the goalpost and Lowe received far less than he was promised which in-turn made him angry and frustrated.
By all accounts it’s business as per usual at Wigan. Lowe has been in a meeting today discussing recruiting and potential targets.
Think of it this way, would you go to a mangerless club in a Jan window ?. I’m sure Dansons thought this out and once Saturdays games out the way and the windows shut then and only then will be be relieved of his job.
I heard a good call earlier online
Leighton Baines
Alot of ex players reckon he’ll eventually go on to manage Everton so we might just be a good fit.
And I’m in no doubt that 13 years in the Prem,145 games (5 years for us) 348 games for Everton, 30 England caps he’d love to give it a go.
Oh and he’s only ever played for 2 clubs in 18 years as a pro which says a lot.
If our players don’t respect that they need to leave and leave now. Between Baines and G.Whelan I’m sure they’ll get us out this mess
28 January 2026 at 3:50 pm #206765Good shout CW; I’d vote for Bainsey
28 January 2026 at 3:51 pm #20676628 January 2026 at 11:09 pm #206768Other clubs axing managers….
Our club has tumbleweed blowing past.
Not a job for Baines, this. Needs an experienced head with lots of links for bringing players in. Its going to be our biggest rebuild job yet in the summer.
29 January 2026 at 3:19 pm #206770Well I’ve heard a strong decent rumour Lowe’s going nowhere right now so we’re stuck with him for the foreseeable future.
To be honest, I’d like to see the back of him but would it be a good thing getting shut right now?. Looking at what’s on the manager front market “Out of the frying pan into the fire” comes to mind.
He plays a system the players struggle with but like Amorin when the players don’t get it or can’t get to grips with it you struggle like fook.
I’d go
5 at the back
Robinson Sessegnon back in
4 in the middle
1 up top
First and foremost we need become bullet proof.
I’d then give any centre half licence to run out and bring the ball out with them. Carragher always does well at that game but right now he’s shit scared.
This would allow M.Smith to move further up the pitch. Im so f**ked off watching him stood on the defenders shoulder when really he should be up the pitch making things happen.
Get Asamoah out wide, I don’t give a shit which side any, his pace will give anyone a mare.
Now you might say
5 at the back ?
Well all’s I’ve seen so far is, wingbacks struggling to defend,
3 centre halfs heads been spun then things like Raphael’s assist being the latest classic then the midfielders have to drop back in front of Aimsons Fox Carragher, the prime example was Bolton
If your left and right backs are first and foremost defenders and they know their jobs are to defend then all your midfield doesn’t need to come bombing back to help out so there’s an outlet further up the pitch for a counter and this has been our problem, players across the middle being dragged back and asked to defend for long periods
Would I prefer wingbacks yeah of course, too right but like at home I’d like steak every night and a new car but I can’t afford them so I make do
You make the best of what you’ve got and play to the players strengths not asking players to do a job when they clearly do not know how to and we all sit back and watch us struggle.
If Lowe persists with the 3 at the back (because that’s what it is) then I’m afraid we will go down, there’s no two ways about it.
The players can’t play in Lowe’s current system Ray Charles can see that but like Maloney Lowe’s stubbornness will be both our undoings, he loses his job, we go down.
I heard him say about the Doncaster game:-
“Players didn’t play to the instructions”
It’s not because they didn’t want, they simply can’t. Lowe has to adapt and fast, rapido. If he doesn’t he needs to go yesterday
29 January 2026 at 4:23 pm #206772Due to social media i have never see such vitriol towards one manager in my life , used to be a few snotty letters to the local rag and wrapped up in chippy paper a few days later at best.
The likes of Hamilton and Kenyon survived for years , deffo wouldnt today thats for sure.
Lowe has faced a bombardment of late and i doubt there is a past Latics manager has faced such pressure going into a home game bar maybe Roberto with the West Ham home game in 2011.
Time to put down the swords me thinks for now , all thoughts aside , feel a bit sorry for the bloke despite his bloody mindedness.
If he is the manager still after all the “Noise” (to quote him) then he is made of bloody sturdy stuff and an albeit tiny part of me wants him to improve and do well and keep the team in this division, managerial changes at this time of year have been disasterous in the past ( Toure, Joyce, Rioch and Mckay spring to mind) sometimes though there is no choice.
As much as its tough its perhaps time to just get behind this demoralised team and hope for a performance from the bottom of the boots off all of them like the second half at Doncaster and the Preston game.
Hopefully he gives them free rein a bit and lets them have a go and changes it up, i dont think he has a choice.
29 January 2026 at 4:32 pm #206773Crowd on Saturday? Lower than 6000 I reckon.
The clubs arrogance towards the supporters has shocked me and disappointed me in equal measure. Really disappointed me.
I don’t like the manager, or Rioch.
The owner and board are shithouses and I wish they hadn’t bought us. Take that any way you want. I HATE what’s happened to the club and what is happening to the club.
it is NOT the Wigan Athletic I supported. Fragmented club.
7 February 2026 at 6:16 pm #206820Should of resigned or been sacked at half time.
He cannot last the evening
7 February 2026 at 6:40 pm #206821<p style=”text-align: right;”>You wouldn’t think so.</p>
But this is Wigan Athletic. Will the board just stay silent, close their eyes and hope it goes away? It wouldn’t surprise me.Im going Arsenal because its booked and paid and I’m looking forward to visiting the top club at this moment in time. Not arsed about the game.
But I’m not going to any home games until he is gone, at the very least.
And preferably Rioch, and the whole coaching staff and scouting clowns as well. Need a complete rip-out because they’re all guilty at various degrees for how we are as a club.
Lowe HAS to go, surely? I can’t wait for all the stories and sub plots to come out about what’s actually gone on in the club. Its a soap opera in itself.
7 February 2026 at 6:48 pm #206823Let’s get a few things straight!!…Lowe isn’t a good fit but neither is “won’t be relegated ” Rioch…If Mr Danson is a shrewd business man then he needs yo give Wigan Athletic a f####### enema!!!…yes I’ve no doubt a different manager can get this turd polished like chrome….but come on …..70% of our players are f###### w###…….Some national league at best!!!…..Gid F###### help us next Sunday!!!
7 February 2026 at 7:08 pm #206824Kudos today to Glenn Whelan today. Whilst Lowe hid away, Whelan didn’t. Was still trying to get the useless fuckers to work until the very end
7 February 2026 at 7:35 pm #206825Some of the play was so bad I can honestly I have seen a better standard in the south Lancs league.
The passage of play that saw one our players actually blaming a linesman for his inept technique of spewing a simple ball out of play in an attacking position really said it all to me.
Posh must have thought it was Christmas with all the gifts our absolutely garbage team gifted today.
I think the ‘project ‘ is over , time to try something else and bloody quick !7 February 2026 at 10:16 pm #206826Let’s get a few things straight!!…Lowe isn’t a good fit but neither is “won’t be relegated ” Rioch…If Mr Danson is a shrewd business man then he needs yo give Wigan Athletic a f####### enema!!!…yes I’ve no doubt a different manager can get this turd polished like chrome….but come on …..70% of our players are f###### w###…….Some national league at best!!!…..Gid F###### help us next Sunday!!!
Its an absolutely shocking bunch of so-called professional footballers.
I agree fully. Some would struggle in non league. You can see why the loan players have been surplus to requirements at their parent clubs. The state of them today, about 4 or 5 kicking away at the ball when it ended up with Lisbie for his hat trick. There were people in the away end who could’ve done better.
We will find out eventually about the behind the scenes goings on, fall outs and things. Maybe ye has lost the dressing room?
But ultimately I do think the current squad is very poor. Even Tickle has lost his way. There are still people who think we will sell him for 10 million this summer. We will be lucky to get 1 million. Especially if we become a league 2 club.
