My 1st match was as a 6 year old back in 1978 (hence the 1978 in my username) .V. Grimsby & we got tonked. I told my dad i wasn’t coming again, yet 37 years later, i’m still here. 4 years after making my bow i saw us get promoted & watched the highlights on kick-off with elton welsby interviewing larry lloyd. 3 years after i went to wembley for our freight trophy win.
After an eternity in division 3 (which became 2) i saw my first ever relegation in 1993. Then one day after coming home from wigan tech my dad asked me to buy a post – whose headline was “dave whelan buys latics”. How i chuckled when he promised premier league football in 10 years. But what i witnessed was a freight rover mark 2 win plus a heartbreaking play off final, in total 3 promotions, 7 more years of premier league football than what i first anticipated, seeing my team play in europe & another day at wembley for some tin pot trophy =-O back in 2013.
So the last 2 seasons haven’t been the best. So what!!! I’ll support them through good times & i’ll support them through the bad times.
A football team is for life – not just the premier league.
