Many years ago The Latics had a midfielder called Ian Gillibrand who is one of our all time greats.
He was a player who just went about his business and got on with his job. He rarely stood out above others, but more importantly never let the team or the fans down. He lead by example and was always a great ambassador of our club.
McCarthy is that type of player, but in this day of age money talks, and if a big money moves comes along then he will more than likely go. Loyalty is one thing, but £10-£20m for the club, and a wage possibly around the £40 – £50,000 a week for the player, who would blame either party for taking the money.

Not that long ago The Latics had a pedantic twat of a fan who petended to go to Goole in 1971.

        It’s pretended, not petended.

At the risk of being a pedantic (but correct) twat ;)

Pedantic – What those in the wrong call those in the right!

Obvious typo from Horc missing out the ‘R’ but sorry mate I can’t allow you to get a midfielder and defender confused although I guess it was a fair time ago !

Oh dear, Phil. Very laudable to defend your mate, but I’m afraid – unless I am very much mistaken, in which case I will hold up my hands – Gilly was indeed a defender, not a midfielder. So, Horc made two mistakes, you just the one. Unless you count defendig your mate when he is wrong as a mistale, in which case you’ve both made two.

Like I say, I might be wrong, but recall Gilly a centre-back, not a defender. Mind you, we all know what my memory’s like, Joe ;)

Ian Gillibrand was indeed a defender, possibly the most vertically challenged centre-back ever.

Continuing with the pedantic theme, it’s “Latics” and not “The Latics” and “Goole Away 71” did indeed go to watch Latics play Goole away in 1971.

I quite clearly stated that Horc made a typo by missing out the ‘R’ in ‘Pretended’ but I was not accepting the fact that his mistake re midfield and defense was petty. In other words I was saying that the reply from Goole Away was not really being pedantic so how is that a mistake on my behalf ?
I doubt very much that anyone is stupid enough to pull you up on your intentional spelling mistakes !

Ah, I thought you were insinuating that Goole had made the mistake on Gilly’s position, not Horc. I apologise, I read it wrong, though it wasn’t totally clear who you were talking to. ;)

Good effort though in reversing nose dive of the Leyland Massif’s credibility over the last few days ;)

Fatman cant offer him a trip to Wembley AGAIN or trips to foreign climbs or a great season because I think West Ham might struggle this year. They are the things that most players want to do in a career regardless of money and the club should Be tough from any approaches especially from clubs like West Ham.
Money is one thing but the chance of glory is another and the buzz being created by next season is as strong as I can remember for many years after the staleness of the premier league. What will be fatmans aim be next year ” forty points” with no doubt reserve teams played in the cups.

All good and well but an extra 10K to 15K a week should put all those concerns to rest.

No matter how much we want any player to stay, fact is a club comes in waving wonga and if its decent the buy and sell merchant will deal
plus the player himself maloney this if true could be his last chance to get back into the prem and give his family a decent wage nobody can deny anyone the right to a better standard of life
if he goes or anyone does good luck to them
we need players willing to give 120% for the club and proud to wear our shirt if not well bye

Sorry mate, but you’re wrong. You’re thinking like a fan, not a professional footballer with a relatively short career length.

For a second there I thought you had wrote…”You’re thinking like a fan, not a professional footballer with a relatively short height statistic” :cheer:
