I wouldn’t have any of them. No thanks.

I’d rather give Graham Barrow the job. Personally, I think we would be nuts to give Rosler or Caldwell the job again. Madness. Peruse the Chesterfield forums to see how Caldwell has improved since leaving us….he hasn’t. The comments are all so very similar. Not a chance would I have him back.

I’d sooner have Ray Mathias back.

        Paul Jewell, Vat?

Posters say on here we don’t want him him or him when suggestions are made for the next manager yet don’t come up with anything of their own! :S

        I’d have Rosler back.

Then again, I’d also have Caldwell back.
Seriously SW, you would have Caldwell back, why?

His treatment of some of the lads who helped him win the title last season was appalling. Not giving them at least till the end of the window I thought was disrespectful. He started this slide and was helped along the way by an inexperienced boss which didn’t do anyone any favours. Sharpie will learn from this I’m sure but surely not Caldwell again.
Yes I would have him back.

I didn’t think we were a million miles away from getting it right under Caldwell, and I thought he was sacked prematurely. (All personal opinion obviously)

I’d take him back, but I very much doubt it will happen.

At this moment in time I’d give the job to Barrow – because I think he’s doing better than his two predecessors and I like having an ex-Latics players management team of him, Atherton and Doolan in charge.

I was told Alan Stubbs was one of the favourites for the job about 3 weeks ago, i posted it on here somewhere!

What Is surprising is why Caldwell was fired so soon. Granted the results weren’t good and we were at the wrong end of the table but it wasn’t as if we were getting battered every week. If we’d had a decent striker we’d have been mid-table at that point. Plus he was sacked after losing 1-0 to the team that will win the league. Hard to understand it was for footballing reasons only, which is why I can’t see him returning.

Joyce was given far more time to turn things around even though the performances were getting worse but it’s embarrassing and costly to sack someone you’ve headhunted and put on a three year contract.

The other Joyce failure, although not entirely his fault, was the January transfer window fiasco by bringing in loanees no better than those shipped out, players nowhere near match fitness and some just not up to Championship standard.

So, if you are going to risk a rookie manager best to do it at the start of the season (it worked last time). Appoint the more experienced guy if things don’t turn out, if you can persuade one willing to come to Wigan. And not Jewell. He had his time here and thanks for the memories but has done bugger all since.

Rosler? The pressure and expectation got the better of him last time and League One might be his level…. oh hang on!

All that said if the players aren’t good enough for the league they’re in it’s always going to be an uphill task.

I’d maybe consider Jewell, with a younger protégé alongside him.

                    Giggs? Boyce? Etc….no.

No experience. That’s what we need, an experienced head.

I’ve also heard rumours about Stubbs. I’d prefer Graham Barrow, being honest. Knows the club well and if he had had more time, he would’ve got us clear of relegation.

For me…outsider? Nigel Pearson. Failing that, give Graham BARROW the job.

Barrow wouldn’t be the worst choice in honesty. You are winning me over VAT.

Cant see why you would give Barrow the job. We have conceded a lot of goals since he took over whilst still setting up defensively. Not entirely his fault through injuries but he has been sacked before from the job. He would not be my choice neither would Jewell or Jones. I think we need refreshing a different direction and I certainly believe that David Sharpe needs the right guy this time . The lad is under pressure after what’s happened and he needs a good season as well. I still believe in most of the players if coached well and I’m optimistic if we bring in the right guy. YAMS.

Appoint the right guy then, just like that!
Caldwell was the right guy last season.
                        Rosler was three seasons ago.

And why not give Barrow a chance? We are conceding goals because we are being less negative and defensive. Out of the six games he’s been in charge we’ve won two, scored eight goals in total of four and lost by the odd goal to the top two teams.

And the last time we appointed someone from within the club we won the league.

So the best criteria is an ex player who knows the club. The coaching staff is mostly ex players is it not?. How many have come through the academy to become regulars in the first team?. Why have we so many loanees at the club when our own youngsters have been farmed out?. Ex players don’t mean they are the right men for the job. Something at Wigan Athletic clearly isn’t working at the minute despite having Barrow Atherton Doolan etc here that’s why I believe we need refreshing up a bit. Sammy, of course its gonna be hard to find the right man and for David Sharpe,s sake I hope he finds him ex player or not. Sentiment is great but only if it works.

If we kicked off the pre-season games with a first choice starting eleven of Gilks, Daniels, Burn, Buxton, Burke, McDonald, Gilbey, Morsy, Colclough, Bogle and Grigg with Morgan James Power and others spare and kept with this line up, only changing players for injury or suspension then there is no reason whatsoever whoever is in charge should not have a decent season next season. Consistent team breeding familiarity and decent results. Start bringing in unproven loan players, swapping and changing and a huge turnover of personal then the result could well be a repeat of this car crash of a season.

I cant believe how all of a sudden people now want barrow in charge. That is a backward step IMO.
