Looks like Martinez is coming again, this time for Maloney.http://www.clubcall.com/championship/maloney-in-premier-switch-1727427.html?would this be a good move for him,i don’t think he would play regular.
1 June 2014 at 9:40 pm #131625He loves the club does Martinez he wants us to do well ( my arse ) I wonder how his luvvies feel now he is coming back again for one of our best players, he loves the club he really does !
1 June 2014 at 10:05 pm #131626Maloney is entering the final year of his contract.
Wigan would like to reduce their wage bill now they face another year in the Championship.
Maloney is one of their remaining high earners and they were open to offers for him a year ago.
1 June 2014 at 10:18 pm #131627To be fair he didn’t set the field ablaze last season on his return from injury, but it may have been more down to the Manager playing him out of position.
I would let him go for a small fee (£1M) as long as they agreed to take Beausejour as well.1 June 2014 at 10:30 pm #131628Whilst I would love Maloney to stay, Uwe has said that he wants the average age of the squad reducing to 24/5.
Maloney is 31 years old and is not as sprightly as he used be. The injury and long lay off last season did take its toll on him, the few come back games he played were not his best, but perhaps that’s understandable.
With just one year left on his contract, we may decide to cash in on him rather than it fizzling out like it did with Gomez, Diame and Figueroa etc.
If he stays …..great, if he goes and is replaced by a good young un….great as well.
The lad Lingard is being linked to us as like Powell, he doesn’t appear to be in United’s future plans.
He’s only 21 years old so that would seems a good acquisition for us knowing how Rosler can bring the best out of players. :cheer:From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!1 June 2014 at 10:45 pm #131629captain calamity caldwell out all season has been offerd a 1 year contract albeit at a 50% reduce of his wages
so keep calamity and sell maloney
now that shows ambition ;)1 June 2014 at 11:26 pm #131630captain calamity caldwell out all season has been offerd a 1 year contract albeit at a 50% reduce of his wages

now that shows ambition ;)If Maloney was actually out of contract then I reckon he would have been offered similar terms to Caldwell. Short contract on reduced wages.
The fact he is still in contract means we can expect a fee of some sort should someone offer one, and save a fortune in wages at the same time.
His wages will be high, so maybe replacing him with a younger cheaper but more eager to perform player might not be a bad move. As long as his replacement is half decent of course and not just someone to make the numbers up.
Caldwell came back from injury like Maloney, but Caldwell did look to offer more to the team at the end of the season, and as Club Captain he still has a lot to offer to the younger less experienced players.1 June 2014 at 11:34 pm #131631I would let him go for a small fee (£1M) as long as they agreed to take Beausejour as well. Now Gomez has gone, we need Beausejour as a scapegoat.

What do expect him to say ‘Sorry Mr Football Agent / Mr Whelan, I know he’s a really good player but it’s better all round if he signs for someone else in case I upset a few of Wigan’s supporters’?
All managers come back for their former players when they move on.

And nobody forces the players to go, either.
2 June 2014 at 12:05 am #131634Everton manager Roberto Martinez is reportedly eyeing up a deal for the winger
Really? I don’t think Martinez is looking for a winger – not that Maloney is a winger. Perhaps he is going to play him at centre forward instead of Lukaku. Or is he really looking for someone to replace Barkley?
Martinez is certainly looking for a replacement for Barry. McArthur has come on leaps and bounds, already has Premier League experience, links well with McCarthy, and has played for Martinez before. If I was Roberto, I wouldn’t look any further.
The old Premier League team is steadily slipping away. I wonder if Uwe can build something that is its equal.

KoneMaloney2 June 2014 at 12:18 pm #131635none of those above are getting any younger plus Rosler needs to build his “own” team. I personally think we need to raid lower clubs of their prize assets and get back to what we have done in the past, buy cheap, nurture, sell big.
6 June 2014 at 2:03 am #131658Didn’t Maloney sign a 3 year deal last season?
6 June 2014 at 11:21 am #131659never looked the same player when he came back last season so if some money comes in and a large wage is taken off the wage bill and a younger hungrier young player comes in then what is wrong with that?
6 June 2014 at 12:00 pm #131661Bloody hell, he was out injured from about late August to March & people are writing him off as “not coming back the same player”.
Never in a million years was he going to come back & hit the ground running. Let’s give him a close season of rest, a proper pre-season under his belt & a few months of next season before writing him off & advising the club to take the money & run -
