17 May 2012 at 10:39 pm #87451they dont deserve him with all the comments their fans are putting on twitter!!
17 May 2012 at 10:47 pm #87452Whelan also gave permission for villa to speak with him last season. B)
Could this be the best team building exercise ever?
Twice approached, twice turned down the opportunity of joining a bigger club, players fans the lot getting even more behind king Bobby. goodpost

What a journey!17 May 2012 at 10:55 pm #87453I for one, hope he stays.
Not only for the sake of Wigan Athletic, but also his personal career. Liverpool have shown with Kenny and Hodgson that they demand instant success. Martinez took time to win over the fans and deliver results here and I wonder if he’ll be given the time he needs by Liverpool. The expectations are very high there obviously, and if next season is another outside of the top 6, he could easily be fired.
I have no doubt that he’ll eventually leave to join a bigger club, I just don’t think the time is right at the moment.

Short memories those scousers, have they forgot that it was Roberto Martinez who masterminded “that team fighting relegation” to take all 3 nurps at Anfield this season.
Liverpool don’t deserve Bobby, never mind the scouse gits not wanting him. :P

What a journey!17 May 2012 at 11:15 pm #87457Liverpool approach us (and others) for permission to speak to RM
Dave Whelan gives permission – RM has to decide if he wants to speak to them. Lets assume he does speak – he will no doubt win them over as he is a very very good speaker
But all this doesnt mean he will be offered the post – there will be many ‘bigger names’ (and I guess this is what the micky mousers will be hoping) appraoched and spoken to

Do we deserve him?
Go back 3 months and you’ll probably find alot worse by our own fans.

Correct, and where have the majority of them gone as soon has things improved they disappeard17 May 2012 at 11:31 pm #87462He’s been given permission to speak to Liverpool, that’s all, and it appears other contenders have also been approached. I also expect West Brom and Villa to ask permission to do the same and if I were Martinez I wouldn’t pass up the opportunity. It doesn’t mean he’s going and it doesn’t mean he’ll stay.
I’m not in the habit of defending Liverpool fans but I can understand their concerns. At the end of January we were nailed on certainties for relegation so why would they be happy about wanting Martinez as their manager. And why would Liverpool take what is a massive risk on someone so inexperienced at the highest level. It’s one thing to keep a team up on a shoestring budget but completely different if the expectation is at least Champions League football.
17 May 2012 at 11:31 pm #87463Alot of the comments, as can be seen at the bottom of the article, are negative about Bob not being ready. Whether he is or not, he’s not going to get many games before he is judged a’la Hodgson. I don’t think he’d get much more money because of what has already been spent under King Kenny (circa £180m). Therefore he would have to make his tactical changes and change the style of play like at Wigan which takes time.
I’m sure Bob is clever enough not to just think of the name Liverpool, and i hope is head will win out over his heart.
Thing is, we have had so many personnel changes in the Premier league and were still here, so its not the end of the world if he does go as long as Whelan finds a manager with the same kind of ethos (not easy i know).
17 May 2012 at 11:58 pm #87465liverpool and their fans will want instant success ie champions league football next season. dont think bob will be able to deliver, he will want time to build his own team and get them to play how he wants as he did with us. so i dont think he will get the job, they may well go for a more experienced mon. think hiddink would be a good choice.
18 May 2012 at 12:09 am #87468After the Swansea game I would’ve been glad to seem him go but never has it been such a pleasure to be proved so wrong.
You can’t blame him for talking to them he may never get the chance if things go TU with us next year. I think the yanks just want miracles done on the cheap though and I doubt if he’ll be given much time either.
18 May 2012 at 12:40 am #87473its only recently that liverpool have fired their managers quickly, they were generally given a decent shot.
i actually thought liverpool did ok last season, and if they had bought a striker that could score, and a winger that could deliver they would have been challenging for 4th.
would martinez have to have a big overhaul of players?..i’d say no.
how much time to change their way of play?…well if he goes this week, he’s got plenty of time before the start of next season.
will he have money to spend?..i’d say yes…on accounts published this week, liverpool only had a deficit of -23m on players…so he’s probably gonna be backed by the owners.
hate saying it, but i think its a wonderful opportunity for him, and the scousers should give him more credit, after all..he beat fergie, wenger, pardew, and their own king kenny, tactically in the last 2 months of the season.
hope he stays, but if not…prove em wrong bobby.
